Chav Rocket
Starting again as im w**k at doing projects or project threads for that matter! its a bit out of chronological order though as im just going by as i see photos and remember doing things lol
Bought K*** RLH end of 2008 with plans to give it a quick service and get it on the road,
Here's how she looked
on picking it up i realised that the heater blower wasnt working and alot of the dash bulbs had blown.
next day whipped the scuttle panel off and found that the plug to the blower had melted so a quick call to joshydee and a plug was with me next day, soldered that on and jobs a good un.
scuttle panel off
dodgy placement of the shield - lazy barstard however done that!
well dirty!
at the same time i replaced all the interior bulbs that i could - i need to buy some more bulbs as the ones on the oil guages are blown. also fixed the heater selector switch not working as however put it back on put it on incorrectly (the selector is mechanical)
got the car in the garage and started looking at doing the cambelt decided forget doing it in car and to crane it out, do the deed and drop it back in.
this got me to thinking that i should get new cams and lifters while the engine was out - then i decided to just get a F7R instead of the cams as better gains were to be had. fortunately for me there was a F7R (williams) block available 20 minutes from me (midge) so the day i decided to get one i managed to have one in my garage the same evening!
the next day i decided to get the cams anyway
at the same time ordered new lifters.
also went and met gaz (cliolord) for a hilpower induction setup and a williams manifold.
stripped the the head off and it was in really good condition already, dad took it to work and had it cleaned then when it got back i lapped all the valves in (a boring boring BORING job) and it was built back up using the new lifters and Catcam 225s.
at the same time i refreshed all the seals including the injector seals. had a problem with the cam seals as it turns out that there are actually 2 sizes available and ktec didnt know that (they supplied the seal kit) i suppose thats acceptable for a clio specialist
quick trip to reno and that was rectified.
with the head built up gave the block a quick clean and a brush of paint - not 100% pleased with the result but i dont care anymore!
then the engine was built up and timed
at the same time i started abusing the chassis with black hammerite - cue getting high in the garage at 1am off the fumes.
Then it was time to pull the retired F7P out
the bay was freshened up with some black hammerite - lost those pics though.
i then replaced the master cylinder (made sense to)
also replaced the front brake lines.
front calipers refurbed and re-sealed
hubs refurbed and treated to new bearings
plastics painted
Subframe refurbished - pics only show it with primer on it but it was treated to hammerite and then a stonechip protection
subframe was then installed along with wishbones and ARB all the bushes were uprated as well as the rear engine mount.
new track rod ends were fitted and new ball joints too.
bought some AVO shocks off AJR gave them a repaint and replaced the 190lb 8" springs with 300lb 10" springs as the 190's were getting coilbound. the 300lbs made all the difference however i will be changing them to 250 as 300 is a little bit too firm around london.
this is how it was looking when it was all fitted up
pic is before i put the new springs on.
also ended up changing the hoses for longer ones as i really wasnt happy with the length on the ones i had.
changed the crappy momo gear leaver for a smaller richbrook one
engine was then dropped back in and plumbed in - ended up buying the full samco set, loom was cleaned and retaped (another boring job) and the broken plugs were all replaced.
at the same time i installed a gunner chip to the willy ECU.
also bought blue ht leads
engine once it was all in
since then i have replaced the header tank for a new one - looks much nicer
no pics of this but i removed the rear beam and painted it, replaced all the rear brake lines (what a t**t of a job) and fitted new brake hoses, load sensing valve, refurbebed calipers and replaced the handbrake cables.
got a ktec decat and fitted after much deliberation
however am finding that the downpipe is very close to the driveshaft boot and the dogbone mount. should there be any additional heatshields in that area?
i have a new scorpion cat back system it will go on while it is at dads work on the ramp - dad will shorten the decat and reweld it and make everything fit nice and tight
thats it for the mechanical side for now - not done much compared to what most people are doing but its a lot for me and the old man!
