Retrieving old files on formatted PC?

  RB 182
Bit of a long shot but has anyone ever done this with any luck? I have previously done a complex CAD model in SolidWorks when the motherboard fried itself. Rather than buy the same one I bought an upgrade and formatted everything like a plonker (this is going back 4-5 years). Is there any chance that the old data can be retrieved?

The hard drive you formatted 4/5 years ago... have you been using it over those last 4/5 years? Or has it been sat in a drawer somewhere? If you've been using it then you won't get it back mate. If it's been sat in a drawer then there may be a chance... but not guaranteed. And it could be VERY expensive depending on how the disk was formatted, etc. You would need specialist data recovery rather than off-the-shelf or freely available tools; and that's not cheap.

To summarise... I would say you've lost that CAD model forever unfortunately mate. :(
