  53 Clio's & counting
hey guys on me way home i let off throttle and the car didnt slow down........

so i dipped the clutch and the car was reving itself from about 1500 up to 3000 ish, just as if i was bliiping the throttle,i gave it a bootfull and returned to normal, next min same again, gave it good rev and idle was around 1k?

got home and it seems to be bk to normal, any ideas guys?

mine is doing the same thing funnily enough. i thought it was the accelerator cable sticking but it doesn't seem to be that so it could be the idle control valve needs cleaning but i don't know where this is. its annoying as it makes you look like a tit at lights especially as i have a loud exhaust. hope some one can help us

  audi a6 3.0tdi
mine is intermitent happens more when its hot also the exhaust is popping and banging a lot more if thats any thing to do with it?

the reason i said about the accelerator cable is that it happened to my rover and that turned out to be the problem. plus my accelerator cable looks fooked it looks like the outer has snapped near the throttle body

I had this when I took my plenham off, does sound like an air leak but that would be more of a constant crazy idle bobbing up and down the revs its a bit wierd it was intermittant.

ICSV is at the back of the plenham, throttle body side the hose that comes off your main induction hose connects to it. Dont think its that tho, what exactly did you take off before hand?

could be that pipe! i took the induction kit off and fitted standard airbox then back again could well have pulled at it as it was moved while changing over. i'll check in the morning. it still doesn't explain the other guys problem if he's not changed anything :S

update:

just been for a good drive, and its doing it again, revs going up and down then staying at about 2500 revs

i got home popped the bonnet and i cant see anything leaking, but i squeesed the pipe from the icv and it idled bk to normal, let go and the revs shot bk up,now i took the pipe that runs from the icv to the intake bend- i pulled it off the intake bend side and the it did nothing? stayed idling wxactly at 2500 not even hiccupped when i pulled the pipe off,i stuck my finger in the pipe and the car stalled, started it bk up with the pipe still off, revs bk up 2500,i put the pipe bk on and still revs the same, only squessing the pipe with my hand makes the idle drop. any ideas??

it sounds like the idle control valve is sucking in too much air at idle so the ecu is putting the fuel in to match it, making it rev!!

take the throttle body off and clean it all out and wd40 the springs!!
also disconnect the throttle cable, rev it with your fingers a few times to see what happens!!

if it idles as normal then you need to adjust the throttle cable if possible or better still get a new one!!

another update:

right gettin fed up sooooooo i took intake bend off and pipe to icv, started up and ran at 2500,so i unplugged icv and nothing happened.............................so i switched her off, cleaned everything, made sure id tightened up my throttle body bolts properly, put everything bk together and plugged the icv in nice and tight and....................................................she runs normal!!!!!!

now i put this down to 2 things

1: i may have caused an air leak somewhere and retracing my steps and making sure everything is nice and tight has solved it

or

2: the plug on the icv worked loose lol

i not sure which one but this is an idea or any other owners with the same simptons is check both that there isnt an air leak and check that the plug is tight into ur icv!

  Black Clio GT
lol sounds like youve sorted it, its often the smallest of things!!

just keep and eye on it and keep the plug free from dusty/ oily deposits sould keep the contacts good and clean!!

  53 Clio's & counting
right she did it again this morning,so i pulled the plug off the icv and plugged it bk in and she dropped to normal so its the plug

  53 Clio's & counting
ok lol she still doing it!!

every time i pull the plug off and put it bk on the dle returns to normal! any ideas guys?

right lol

getting fed up so off comes icv,and had a full dosing of carb cleaner, not as dirty as id hoped tho......also elec conact cleaner on the plug for the icv and the contacts themselfs (notew dont do this while lookin at the plug as it splashes bk and goes in ur eyes doh!) once eys washed out lol cleaned the face that the icv sits on,all bk together and...................twice as worse!! in fact i revved it and the revs stuck at 5k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

so i take off the intake pipe to check the throttle body butterfly isnt open,i gingerly start her bk up and..........idles perfect! revved up and drops bk perfect,so on with inlet pipe, everything secured and out for a test drive,so far 100% perfect, and the idles has raised slightly too :)

so fingers crossed now guys and girls this has sorted it
