You asked for a diagnostics and got charged £50? How very dare they!

What's a 'miss'??

Renault specialists are your friend:

GDI
Yozzasport
Rentec
K-tec Racing
Angelworks

etc... all these companies know what they're talking about, more so than Renault.

Independant reputible Renault dealer ftw.

Seriously though, is it misfiring? Because if it is itll be one of 3 things >

1.Faulty Coil Pack (possibly spark plugs aswell)
2.Faulty HT Lead
3.Faulty Injector

they sed bring it bk when it was missin i think if they turned there radio down they would of heard it.

Did they give you the clip test printout? Prob isn't missing at all, they run like a bag of s**t at idle.
So you've had a diagnostic done and it turns out that theres nothing wrong with it, I don't understand why your pissed off? Obviously they could of flogged you a new set of plugs or a coil pack or too...
Did you know your rear pads were low? So they've done a full 25 point check over the vehicle and all they could find was low rear pads, sounds good to me, £50 well spent tbh.

Or tried to rip you off by chancing there arm at seeing how many things "need doing" to your car.

There a bunch of chancers! Mines was in getting the bonnet catch getting done and the b**ch from the service dept tried to hit me with "your front pads and discs need changed...."

No b**ch, the pads and discs were done last month, know you limits you tosser!

no wot u mean my pads r ok cos it went through a mot bout 3 day b4

I very much doubt they would advise on changing something that didn't need doing.
MOT's aren't very strict at all now tbh, as long as the brakes are above minimum thickness and it passes the brake test it will fly through.
The reason behind the 25 point check system is as follows: If your vehicle went in for any work to be done, however minor and something dropped off up the road or you got pulled for a bulb out the first thing you would do is head back to the garage and kick off. Hence why a copy of the checklist is given to the customer and the carbon copy is kept.

The reason behind the 25 point check system is as follows: Renault want to f**k you over at every opertunity and charge over-inflated prices because lets face it, The cheapest plastics that France has to offer has the special place in eveyones heart especially as you hand over often double what any other reputible dealer would charge .

Yes i quite agree, and heres why...

Window regulator failed on my car (this as you probaly know is a common fault amongst Renaults.

Renault Charge £ 174.81

Euro Car Parts charge £83.45

For the same part? Where is it not simple to understand that Renault's prices are over inflated!

And by the by, do you honestly think for a minute that Renault wouldnt jump at the chance to sell an unsuspecting customer parts they dont need? Wake up mate!

Shouldnt have taken it to the dealers m8. Are all Renault dealers like this around the globe or is it mostly in the uk that they employ fools?

I think we're missing the point here chaps.

The OP seems pissed off that Renault charged £50 for a diagnostics that didn't show anything. Hardly the dealers fault that though is it? If the OP believed there was an issue and the computer doesn't show any faults then what, exactly, can Reanult do about it?
Zilch.

Calling them rip-off merchants (or whatever derogatory term you wish) is uncalled for in my opinion. You asked for a service to be carried out (diag) and it was. £50 is actually quite cheap as I've heard anything upto £80 be charged for the same thing.

This is all ignoring the brake comment, but as correctly stated they didn't exactly try and get you to buy a new set so what's the issue??

People are far far too eager to **** dealers off on here when all they've done is perform the service you requested.

:S

Oh and anyone who doesn't understand why a main dealer charges double what a back street garage does, is quite frankly deluded.

Pitty your not closer to me, I may have been able to help.

Seeing as I used to be a motorcar engineer and do all my own work, the only tool I was really missing was a good diagnostic setup. So I invested in a decent laptop and OBDII diagnostic apps/conectors a few months back.

Recently just been helping people for free to get more experience. Dealers/garages charge a fortune, and some small garages just have crap cheap plug in conectors that just turn the engine light off and don't even give a report. Atleast with the laptop I have around 10 apps to chose from. Some even have full remapping capabilities etc.

Interesting reading earlier in the thread, where by you can check the usual components such as injectors, sparks, HT leads, coil etc if you have a misfire, like we all do. The beauty of diagnostics though, if done right, is like last week when I plugged in my diagnostics and it even told me which cylinder had the misfire!, eliminating the search through components that are working fine.

Totally agree. I guess my experience last week sums it up.

I was lead to believe that its £87 for a diagnostic check, but that gets wiped off if you have the work done with them. Thats what Renault Bolton, Manchester and Oldham charge

Do you own Renault?? I would never use them ever to many bad experiences!

Spot on Marshall.

No I do not own Renault, I wish I did! I simply have a more mature attitude than to simply think "I was ripped off" because perhaps a Renault dealer charged me considerably more than a back street garage would have done. Peoples logic in this respect just fails me, it really does.

Now if Renault had said "You're rear brakes are low and we're going to charge you £200 to replace them" then I could kind of understand the frustrations, but £50 for a diagnostics which the customer actually requested...?

Not this again, how many times. You took your car to renault with a fault, and they charged you half hours labour which IMO is perfectly acceptable. They would've plugged it into clip and found nothing ( which doesnt mean theres nothing wrong ) and thought it was another paranoid customer. If they wanted to rip you off they wouldve tried to sell you a coilpack / TDC sensor etc as mentioned earlier.

Tbf, when mine went in for the bonnet catch swap and had the multi-point check, I was keen to see what Reno would say.

There were three issues on the car that I knew about and they spotted all three. They mentioned two more, which I then addressed myself afterwards.

I'm far from being a mechanic, but if I knew jack s**t, it was good to know that these guys spotted these faults. Changed my view of Reno tbh...... only slightly however! ;)

some people make me laugh ! 50.00 for a diagnostic check and no fault found did you explain when it was missing ? under load on tick over hot or cold ? ? or offer to show them it missing or what you think is a missfire ? a missfire usually show's on the dash as the eng mil light flashing on most cars, where i work it's 115.00 plus vat for a diag check so you got let off lightly ! renault and most main dealers charge high prices because of the over heads and training facilties they have to put technician's through, fred in the shed doesn't have all these to pay for thats why he can charge 25.00 for a diagnostic check and 8 times out of ten he could cure the fault as it's a regular fault with some car's the bigger faults or technical stuff is when its dealer, it's my job and a few others on here to check a car over and REPORT the findings if i think pads etc are low i will report its my job. mot laws are different read the document it says it was ok at the time of the test, us fool's as called by some people on here are good at there job's and are well respected in the job by customers.

  Clio Sport 182
also by the way what plug's did you fit genuine renault one's or cheaper plug's ? most people no the non gen plug's play havoc with the car and did it miss before the plug's were fitted ? did they use new gaskets where required ? if there isn't a fault code in the ecu it's more than likely a mechanical fault or something that was not done correctly
