Rolling road results my 172

  Clio 172
right then went to a rolling road day yesterday in the clio and results came out as 175bhp and 170lb of torque. i have known the guy who runs the place for a while after he fiddled with my old fabia vrs for me and said i am doing well to push that power as he has done a few before that were sub 170 bhp.any opinions on this?!

also thought i would let you know that a friend of mine who has a corsa turbo pulled 487bhp and jumped off the rollers so had to abort the run!!!! and a lad from west cumbria put his supercharged civic type r on and it ran 477bhp!! (what a noise that thing made!!!)

  Focus RS mk1
there is a company called jnc who have a turbod corsa with nos running at over 650bhp!!! the car looks like a1.2 corsa from outside even with black bumpers but a intercooler the size of the front end.

Was it at JDM Dyno's by any chance?

Their rollers are complete and utter s**te. Home made and over read by a square mile. Have a habbit of under reading too when theres any potential money to be made  lol

Andy GDi got 172lbft with 230 bhp so not a chance in f*** will your torque be anywhere near 170

These seem a bit lack-lustre for me.

Setting up a rolling road is an art of science, tempature, tyres, fan positioning, i really trully beleive you would never get the same figures twice.

you lot dont believe anything , my old cup had 170lbs of torque , a fair bit of mods but not impossible

power isn't far off std but the torque's much higher - depends if/how it's been tuned i guess, but doesn't seem right on the face of it

carlisleboy - what has your car had done to it ?

No standard 172 puts out 172bhp as they aren't 172bhp to start off with, they are something like 160 bhp.

i thought they generally made mid-160s, so (depending upon accuracy of RR..) he's got an extra 10-ish-bhp and and extra 15-ish-lbft. depends what it's had done to it but you'd generally expect more of a power increase than a torque increase, hence seems unusual (IMO)

do they see book torque on rollers?

According to a old topic, IK, decat and exhaust.

The rollers are home made (fact)

BHP seems about right for the mods but the torque is a complete fairy tale figure

cheers everyone, yea i know these rollers arnt the best but went down for the day just for the crack and ended up having a run, yea all i have done is a viper ik, decat and exhaust and like i said i didnt know what i was to expect as its the first time i have had it done for this car so. its not like im gonna go about shouting about havin that much torque is it!!! and yea it was at jdm, anyone reccommend any decent rolling road nbot far from where i am?

What gear did he run it in m8...I am sure it makes a difference with certain rollers? Should have been 4th but I think he might have run yours in 3rd maybe?

Chris

the first run he did brought up 172bhp and not sure of torque. i really dont know what gear he ran it in but when i had my old fabia done he ran it in 4th and then tried a run in 5th in it i think. ill have to ask him but like i said i didnt know what power figs to expect so thats why i put the post up!! to see if its anything near what it should be!! lol

  53 Clio's & counting
come on guys the fist half of the 1st page is just posts with f**king this and f**king that, ok the guy wont have 170lbs ft of torque but surely we can give him a better welcome than just swearing!

lol cheers mate, like i said came for advice but erm "theres no way you've got that much f**king power" and the rollers are shite aint exactly helpfull!!! but nevermind eh!!!

  LY R26
sounds good figures for what you have done, mine got 160bhp the other week and its standard, was it muppets corsa?

Im sure your not a loony lefty and have heard swearing before and it clearly wasnt directed at you yourself. Quite obvious that ''someone'' hint hint could be a bit bitter towards this RR dont you think ;)

Belive Muppet Sports Corsa is quite well known and is no question, one seriously quick motor. Ran a 12. something last time i seen it, last year at Crail and heard the stories of 400+ bhp but with JDM's rollers being dodgy as and your over optimistically measured torque result proving it, 487 bhp?? .....mmmmmmmmm  = ?

well i dont mind comin down to a rolling road day if someone organises one from this forum and im sure i could twist muppets arm to come down as well? then the ''true figures'' can be found out.

and im not arguing the point of the rollers bein dodgy but one to think about. a lad called pete who i have known since school lives up here and sold his white ibiza cupra not so long ago(its the white one that was featured in redline mag a few months back) that was tuned by jabbasport and made 341bhp down there when it was rolling roaded, and then when he had it done up here at jdm it made the same, think it actually made 340bhp. how can that be if the rollers are so bad? are jabbasports home made as well?!! not starting an argument by the way but just curious

Well what was the torque figure on either RR? As that is what appears to be wildly inaccurate from your cars results. BHP was about right.

Only accurate way of measuring a big power engine is to whip the lump out and strap it to a engine dyno.

Iv been at the said RR when i had problems with the car and with in a 3 week period had and 3 different RR sessions all of them test runs ended up with 3 different bhp results and from memory being a difference of 15 bhp from one to the last.

From your results your bhp does actually look about right but the torque figure is way way off the mark which must cast doubt over the whole results.

How can a RR's bhp be right but not the torque? :S

RR's are places to go to, to be fed motoring penis pills - true performance talks when on the road

But can it go round a corner?

This is a corner in a turbo corsa world :):):rasp: :rasp:

never a truer word spoken mate, quite right, bhp and torque is for the pub!!

RR's should always be taken with a pinch of salt....My cammed, high comp, itb'd cup was tuned at gdi @ 233 bhp 177 ftlb torque, however, when i was at the pod, i had it rr'd again and it put out 201 bhp 165 ftlb torque. now i know i haven't lost 30 bhp, because 30 mins earlier i'd run a 14.1 @102mph with poor traction off the line! I'd like to get it done again, but i can't see the point in wasting the money, i know it's quick, and i'm fairly happy
