RS200 64mm ported TB

Hi,

I have been looking into things I can do to my 200. Came across a few threads on 197/200.net about people having a lot of success fitting a 64mm ported throttle body kit. However these all seem to be on 197's, any reason no 200's?.

Im no mechanic, and if Im honest am not 100% sure what a throttle body does. Could someone break it down for me? Explain what it does and the benefits?

Also, they say its around £75 - £100 +fitting. Thats why I thought, hmm. If that actually has any gains it's worth asking the above!

Hmm, thanks for that, but doesn't massively help explain what they're for etc could you elaborate why it is you think that?

the idea is larger bore = less restriction = more power

in reality, larger bore = more air at a set throttle position = the illusion of more power

in simple terms

standard TB - lets say at 10% throttle open gives you say 5kg/ph or airflow
large bore TB - the same 10% throttle angle gives 5.5kg/ph of airflow

at WOT the engine can't suck in anymore air because you become limited by the engine itself, NOT the throttle body

Ry it's basically a flap that's connected to the throttle pedal that opens more as you put your foot down. By enlarging it in theory it can flow more air and thus more power. However like Fred said its a waste of money just to do this alone. (Much like most things people do to normally aspirated engines)

I would say the best thing you could do to a 200 would be to try and reduce its weight by as much as possible. If you could strip 150kg+ it would be a very capable car (as if it isn't already)

Adding power won't be easy or come cheap. Improving its power to weight is certainly possible.

Yes indeed.. I remember when i had my R27 and i'd had the roof decals removed by the dealer before picking it up.. I'd registered the car on their little gay register and advised that i was having the decals removed and you'd have thought i'd pumped someones Mum lol.

I remember when someone genuinely ruined a 197, they 'slammed it'... it actually looked undrivable.
Sir_Dave made a very accurate comment about messing with the cars rake and set up etc etc, and they almost lynched him lol

some, not all of them seem to be of the opinion that 'ive changed (insert car part) from standard, therefore making the car better' which I've noticed among people who have a slight interest in cars, but aren't enthusiasts.

we tried the bigger throttle body and saw pretty much ZERO difference!
