Russ's Honda S2000

  53 Clio's & counting
Looks EPIC in the planned pic!

Get an Intake on it, sound awesome! Make that F20 sing!

Thanks mate, trying to decide on what filter, as they tend to mount right above the radiator, which isn't good lol

Nice, up there with imprezas and evos for silly insurance though?

Yeah they are group 20, but for a fairly high power rwd convertable I guess thats expected it will be more than most :)

Looks epic on the newer wheels, will look forward to seeing it finished

I hope I can find a set well priced, those later wheels seem to hold their value very well

Love the colour!

If you need any inspiration check out Rich McKee. He's from hull, used to run a car club "fast and modded" (it's no longer about though) had an r33 skyline then bought his s2000. Anything you need to know he could be useful.

His websites www.r-m-photography.com tbh everyone should check it out.

Here's a snap of his s2k.

Thanks mate, I will check that out later

Such a nice colour mate! Hope you can source an engine cheap enough, I can see this being a keeper :D

Me too mate lol, if it's as good as previous ones I have driven I can see myself keeping it for a while :)

Well, this is an interesting one.

Nice colour (I think?) I'm not totally set on it, maybe it needs (I can't believe I'm saying this) dark wheels?

Looking forward to see how you get on with it mate.

Yeah the colour is a bit of a wildcard mate, I wasn't 100% on it until I saw that last picture of it I put up - plus in the metal it looks a lot better :)

Until I am able to afford another set of alloys, i'm tempted to do the current ones a darker shade as they need a refurb - we shall see :)

Been offered to keep the number plate for £350.....

  53 Clio's & counting

It is tempting, not that I actually have that money lol :(

LOL. I was tempted to say he'll have it at least 6 months ;) That's good going for Russ x

That is lol, I used to keep cars a while, my black Ph1 I had for 6 years! Though when I keep getting great offers like this, I just simply can't pass them up.

So thats one vote for buy the plate, what's everyone else think?

  Edition 30
It's less than you'd pay for it any other time I'm guessing?!

Surely you'd get your money back if you wanted to sell?

Yeah that's cheaper than its worth, but I'm not sure if the plate is really that important? I can't make my mind up

lovely motor Russ... Hey, did i sell you something years ago??.. i recognise your name thats all

Lol possibly mate? I loose track of most of the things I do lol

No i dont know him but saw it for sale on P'heads and was sorely tempted but havent got the time/space to take another project on now :(

Ah cool, well let's just say I didn't pay anywhere near what it was up for. Really nice chap, keeping in contact with him as he wants to know the damage

S2000s are renowned for oil starvation issues on track days - maybe what has happened to this one?

They're not really - there have been reports of plooms of blue smoke during hard cornering, but that is actually because of the oil level being at max or above.

What is the case is that Pre-2004 cars go through alot of oil. My 2003 reg went through 1 litre every 4000 miles; so all it takes for one of the previous owners to be neglectful in regards to the oil top ups.

Russ, two mods you will want for sure...

PRM Induction Kit - Doesn't add power, but doesn't reduce, it just unlocks that beautiful VTEC Howl at full chat and also helps the engine breath more freely from 7000rpm+; see this thread from the S2000 forum: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/934140-the-prm-vs-kn-fipk-question/page__hl__prm (scroll down to my post with two videos embedded - second from bottom)

Standard Exhaust Mod - Again, no power gain or reduction, but a lovely note is added with no drone what-so-ever. That was one bug bear of mine was how stifled the exhaust system was and this mod made all the difference, and I got it done for £30! See this thread: http://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/944056-exhaust-mod/page__hl__prm

Then after that its lowering springs/coilovers and 17" wheels, as those OEM 16"s just don't fill the arch enough. Have a look at Rota Torques; they generally suit the pre-facelift bumpers more than the facelift wheels :)

You should enjoy yours when its ready in spring. The 2003 car is the most enthusiastically balanced; pre-2002 they were snappy on oversteer with little warning, and 2004 onwards the geo was geared towards understeer. But any geo specialist can set it up however you like...

Enjoy!

Had a bargain them mate.im looking at Dc5's instead as I need the boot space for golf clubs

PS: I had no heat-soak at all with my PRM as the opening of it actually extends past the edge of the radiator, and there is a clear and strong path of air that comes through from the lower grille.

Cool car, epic engines too, surprised to hear it has a problem, they are normally pretty reliable.

Thanks mate! I had read about the exhaust mod - definately on the list now, and i'l have a look at that induction kit too! Will check out the links you provided once i'm home - thank you :)

Ha lol, DC5's are awesome, I love the blue they come in!

Yeah I had noticed most induction kits seem to sit right above the radiator - not great lol

Cheers Chip, a bit different to the Clio, but as i will be lucky to do 2 track days next year, it made sense to get a more road biased car for the time being - Plus I have always got a Clio of some sort around so I still feel part of the Club lol

I'm not 100% but I think it's probably been run low on oil at some point in it's life - as you say they are usually spot on, and can do mega miles, but the biggest killer according to the owners club is low oil - I look forward to getting the sump off it and having a look :)

  182/RS2/ Turbo/Mk1
Yes I am sure you are correct, due to the revs involved most of the vtec engines do use a small amount of oil when driven hard, so its easy to run low if you dont keep on top of the checking and topping up of the oil.
About 100ml per 1000miles of "fast road" driving seems to be about normal from the ones I have had.

Bushes is another "common" fault according to some, think the wishbone bushes are a bit of a bummer as Honda don't sell the bushes separately. Might be worth a check if its been sat for awhile mate.

So I don't have to do it when you sell it to me. X

I just can't wait to get stuck in, once i've cleared the million other things I have to do first lol

Yeah the bolts are not greased from factory, so they rust in the bushes, so bolts usually need to be cut, and the arms are circa £350 each.

You can get a few bushes seperately mind, the frontr compliance bushes which you can swap for mugen ones which apparently tighten it up a bit.

Looking at the arms and bushes on mine they look in really good nick, so i'm going to start coating them in a freeing agent once a week or so for the coming months - see if I can get at least a fighting chance to get the bolts out as I will be wanting to set the geo once it's on the road :)

(and yes Michael, you can have first refusal when I sell ;) x)

If you are busy can you not give it to Danpl6 with a pack of biscuits and get it back when its perfect? lol

Flol! To be honest Chip i'm in no rush - I've cleared my garage out so it can live in there for the time being, the rear tyres are low plus it needs tax so I will just let it sit for a while I think - I'd like to get some smaller jobs sorted on it first like ripping the interior out and giving it a proper clean, so if it doesn't drive I won't get side tracked by driving it all the time lol.

Just seen this, love it, such a nice colour too.

Thank you very much :)

I have been looking at a subtle lip for the front bumper though......

Nice project Russ, colour is a bit mental, prefer an understated Grey but it's a lovely machine. Engine and gearbox as a combo is simply fantastic.

Nooooo they look boring in grey - I think it really doesn't follow the lines right. Plus as it's a toy I like having it a bit of a random colour :D
(oh missed you x)

Such a great conversion, Abbey Motorsport are about 5 minute drive from me Russ if you fancy dropping it down

Love S2K's - I really do. Probably the only 2-seater I'd jump for in sensible-ish money.

Great purchase Russ. A matching hard-top would be perfect - but I guess that's like asking for hen's teeth!

Late wheels, mild drop, OEM Honda front lip, done.

Pretty much what I'd like mate, Sportlines really set the S2000 off nicely and are well priced, plus I have been offered a set of those wheels for £500 - they have good tyres but they are budgets :(
