RUST?! have you got any?

  172 Phase 1 & 172 Ph
Just giving my '2000 172 Clio a much needed wash this morning and it has started to develop the early signs of rust on the driver side rear arch :dead: two bubbles in the paint (the inner skin is completeley solid so must be rusting in between the inner & outer skin of the rear quarter)

Was a little bit surprised but then again i suppose it is 9 years old now, you forget how old they are at times!

Nevermind its due for a full respray this summer so i will get it sorted at the same time.

Just wondering if anyone has started to notice rust coming through on theirs?

110k! its not major rust by any means, just the start of a more serious rust issue if it's ignored.

I'm used to rust as i've always had older classic cars in the past, MGB's, Mk2 Golfs, BMW e30's etc...

But maybe the clio's are starting to reach that age where they need some rust prevention work? waxoil etc i'll certainly be giving mine a once over when the respray is done.

Really? any more info on the 10 year corrosion warranty would be good, mine only come with the service book and no handbook.

Just found a handbook from a Clio Mark 1 and its got an 8 year anti-corrosion warranty, not sure if the Mark 2's have anything though...

No its HPI clear, the other p/side quarter has been blown in at somepoint - but the d/side looks factory, the join of the two skins of the quarter etc are spot on.

Just looked again and its virtually directly below the filler flap so its probably just a build up of moisture getting in causing it.

For the anti-corrosion warrenty to be held up I think it has to be serviced at renault so the periodic bodywork checks can be carried out. Might be wrong though.

Well heres my mk1, id advise you to get it down straight away unlike me, otherwise you mite end up with a nice new hole like this one :approve:

Sure when anti-corrossion was last mentioned it came out that for it to be valid then it had to have regular Renault servicing and be proved it was rusting from the inside out.

The anti-corrossion warrenty is essentially useless tbh. They'll hardly ever pay out on it, especially at that age. You could always see the back arches would be a problem on them just like the mk1 as the way the inside used to hold all sorts of shite which would hold moisture. Used to always make a point of blasting mine out with the hose when I washed the car for what good it did.

The anti corrosion warranty is 12 years , but you'll need to have had the bodywork checked and your service book stamped at each service by a Renault dealership .
