Rusty new left brake disc

  Clio 182 cup
Hi everyone, i'm new on here so please be gentle.

I own a 03 plate 172 cup thats be remapped, just put some Mintex Xtreme pads all round on my car and all grooved discs as well all round. Over the last few days i've noticed just the bake left disc is rusty and looks like the pad is not really binding with the disc. Any ideas as i was just wondering if i have to bleed the brake?

Cheers.

rusty discs are perfectly normal but it does sound as though you've got some kind of caliper piston problem if they're still rusty immediately after having used the brakes

you don't need to bleed the brakes but i'd check the pads are fitted properly and that the piston moves OK to start with

Hi, thanks for the replies.

The previous owner claimed it was 210bhp, even though its got a group 'N' ECU re-map and K&N filter. Its prob 185bhp max at a guess.

yeah i'll check to see if the piston works ok.When i unscrewed the nut which releases the fluid nothing came out. I'm confused.com.

just wanted some ideas before i see my mechanic mate at the weekend. Thought i would see if it was something simple.

I think the mintex pads with the discs are quite good. First set of performance pads i've had, was gonna get redstuff pads.

I had a similar issue with my n/s front caliper. It turned out to be a seized caliper guide meaning that only the top half of the pad was making contact with the disc.

Whip the caliper off and make sure tat both guides are running freely. If not, work them out, re-grease then rebuild.

If that's not it, could it just be spots of rain causing slight surface rust? Every time I come back to my car lately, the discs have started to oxidise.

Yeah thats the same as mine, just looked when i went to lunch and towards the outside of the disc the outer half is rust where it looks like it doesn't contact the disc.

take it out for a run and give the brakes a good work out; hop out and have a look at your discs: if they've been cleaned up by the pads, you've nowt to worry about

if any of them are still rusty, you've a problem as the pads can't be acting against the discs as they should

discs are mild steel and will oxidise in no time at all - it's normal:)

PS. you may well now have to bleed the brakes if you've undone the bleed nipple..

Was thinking that, you've probably managed to get air into the system. Which would explain the lack of braking if you've only done it on that side?
