i dont dispute you, you only need customer service when something is wrong with the actual line which is rare, as if its computer based we can sort it out. i have been dealing with sky for so many years now i have direct numbers to uk based offices such as dunfermline etc. but of corse your info is correct, and people should bare that in mind wen looking for a new isp
what it boils down to is...... your line may never go wrong and you may never ever need support to do anything for you, but if it does go wrong one day you will kill for somebody who knows what they are doing on the other end of the phone to sort you out, and the likes of AOL or tiscali, etc etc are incapable of doing it quickly.

Also.. how long am i likely to be without the internet, whilst things are being swapped over from aol to yourself?
as long as you are on a bt line and not been LLU'd by AOL (not sure if AOL do have unbundled exchanges?) then u will have no downtime, it's a seamless changeover.

On 10 October 2006, Carphone Warehouse announced the purchase of AOL UK, the leading LLU operator, for £370m.[1] [2] This makes Carphone Warehouse the 3rd largest broadband provider and the largest LLU Operator with more than 150,000 LLU customers.[3]

first thing to do would be to ask AOL for a mac code, you need that to migrate to another provider. that code will tell us whether you are on bt equipment or have been unbundled.
just phone them up and ask, it's normal, they will issue shed loads per day. all it is is a migration code.

That's with Tiscali, it's only £17.99 Pm for unlimited downloads. It's supposed to be an 8mb line with 512 upload but I'm not complaining. There is a better speed test out there but I forget the link.
A future tip if you have to call the numpties on tier 1, just respond to their e-mails saying that you have performed all of the steps listed in the e-mail that way they'll have no option but to put you through to a higher tier. I've had to deal with the ones at NETGEAR and they are completely f**king hopeless.

how amusing... AOL have solved the problem that was meant ot be on my computer!!! tw*ts.
must be limiting d/l spped in evenings as mine was full speed this morning.
It's not that they're limiting it but the ISPs total bandwith is spread between all it's users, how many users depends on the contention ratio of your ISP.
Tiscali is quite good in that it has an unlimited download limit per month but if you download excessive amounts between 6-11 (peak hours) it will warn you then if you continue it places you in a group with other excessive users so you share bandwith with them and normal users service isn't effected - but only between these core hours. Not a bad solution I think... my only complaint about the ISP is my Bit Torrents download extremely slowly.
