Looks really clean mate. I'd be tempted to have the wheel retrimmed by Snappy? What's your plans for the interior? Following with interest!

Tbh the steering wheel is in really good condition so that’ll stay as it is. Seats need a de bobble then that’s it really.

If anybody wants the car for £1,500 they can have it now.

it’s fitted with the original CAT which is worth £600.

If not I’ll keep it until the summer, do the belts etc and put it up for £2,995.

it will need to be transported as the cambelt is miles overdue and it doesn't have an MOT or tax.

Anything up with it? Or is it all good?

I'd love to Russ, I think I'd be as popular as Coronavirus in my house if I suggested it right now.

😂 I feel your pain.
I'd be concerned that I'd be having to do the underside restoration all over again, we've also just bought a piece of field behind us to extend our garden. It was more of a gift really but the solicitors fees alone have eaten up Flamer money. However, no holidays this year🤔

Damn! That really didn't take long at all, a great deal at £1500. What's next mate?

Sold, hopefully Joss can carry on with the thread, will be a lovely car once the belts are done. I’m glad it hasn’t been broken down for parts like a lot have recently.

This thread has made me commit to putting some money away a month so when something like this crops up in the future I can act rather than be a keyboard purchaser :)

Sorry chaps, right place right time, which never happens!

As I said to Alastair I'd been lurking for a few months engrossed in build threads whilst waiting for a car to come up that hadn't been flogged to death was sensibly priced. This one fits the bill perfectly! A little recommissioning and it'll be a lovely daily to fizz around in.

I will of course keep it up on here!

Cool find and looks awsome. Got to agree flame red is a lovely colour. You have done a really good job of cleaning it up and original cars are becoming rare. Look forward to the new owners updates.

The old girl made it, but after 2 minutes of musical chairs moving cars around at my house she was struggling to kick over so needed to be popped on charge. I must say, @Alastair. has done a cracking job cleaning her up, and having thumbed through the history I am pleasantly surprised at the condition of the car and how well kept it seems to have been, all in all pretty chuffed! thanks again bud.

I have a lot of running around to do today, then some drinking to do later, so providing I’m not too hungover I’ll get it up in the air tomorrow for a quick check over ahead of it’s MOT and service items (belts, pump, etc) being done.

And a final one, it’s stable mate lurking in the background.

Hopefully it’s as good underneath as it is on top, at least we know the gearbox and sump is pissing out everywhere like most 👍

every time i started it I was praying the cambelt didn’t snap 😂

If I had kept it longer I would have clay bared it all and machine polished it etc. But it has come up cracking for about 9 hours worth of work.

funny reading this, my mate said just before Christmas i think i'll sell my 182, instantly i knew i'd have to buy it and save it, its a Black Gold 05 plate currently on 76k. Totally original, i wenr to get it with him 5 years ago and it had done 68k then. He very rarely used it, anyway almost finished now, only the exhaust left which i've got ready to go on and its done. Shes an absolute pleasure to drive, takes me back to when i had one new , I would love to open a Renaultsport Rescue Centre! 😁

That looks great (y) Can't be many left with original steering wheels in that condition. I shaved my seats with a de-bobble gadget, worked a treat and look like new.

So progress has yet to begin on the old girl but that is soon to change, as it should be going off to Ren-O-Tec at the end of this week for:

Cambelt and Dephaser
Aux Belt
Waterpump
Cacaps, seals etc

and hopefully an MOT. Having looked over it I think it should pass as the brakes and suspension look fairly decent on first glance, but I’m sure there will be something. It sounds as though the exhaust is blowing so I’ll have to find a replacement I expect.

Having looked through the history I think the reason the car was parked up in the first place was because it was due the belts and dephaser, and the owner just didn’t want to spend so much on a 20 year old Clio.

Speaking of the previous owner, it was somewhat reassuring to discover their taste in tunes:

Lol, I did see that in there, pushed it straight back in 😂
😂 correct decision

So one of the rear tyres had gone soft over the course of the week and revealed some big age cracks in the sidewall. Since the cars going for an MOT next week it needed sorting, but I was reluctant to put a full set of tyres on wheels that I was planning to change.

I remember seeing the spare was in good condition so pulled it out to have a check, it’s a great condition wheel and tyre so it’s been thrown on for the purpose of getting it through the test.

Just remember to leave the spare out for the test now.

If you put a baldy cracked wheel in the boot for the test it will fail. But if you have nothing it will pass. Quirks of the MOT [emoji23]

Yup, so stupid

The general rule used to be "if its not there you cant test it"😂

Its a shame I can’t just leave the whole car at home for the test 😂

  Ph2 172, R34 Skyline
I forgot to add, the car is sounding real rough so it’s having a compression test and general check over before doing any work. I think this is just the sound of a slack belt and knackered tensioners but I’ve been wrong in the past so it won’t hurt to have a proper check over.

I had an RPD delivery today with a new number plate light (no life from the other one and the lense looked mank) and a replacement rear exhaust mount, just more MOT prep really.

Decided to take the big boat to work the other day as it was dry and sunny this week so the Clio had to be shifted out the way of the garage. It protested and dumped most of its power steering fluid on the floor so that’s another one for the job list 😂
