Scorpion SRN019 + Decat blows

Most of the exhaust sound seems to come from the centre of the car which is very annoying :(

The black carbon stuff is coating the outside of the decat pipe coming from the bracket holding the decat to the rest of the back pipe.

its screwed on v tight does anyone else get this? This is brand new also

Did you buy a new clamp or re-use the old one?

Did you put any sealant on it when it went together?

Yes new clamp, however its not a genuine renault part but it fits quite well. and i put some sealant on after i realised it was blowing and it still hasnt helped.

When we did ours (about 6 weeks ago) we found that it was blowing too, from the centre section side as opposed to the manifold side. The old clamp was part of the issue as was the fact that centre box was blowing, the lip has deteriated slightly so we had it welded up and now its selaed :)

You welded the cat to the centre section do you mean?

What sealant did you use? And did you clean the pipes both off well before applying it and reclamping it?

Ah, ok rich, so basically totally irrelevant if his is only blowing at the joint itself but well worth checking that is the case if buying and fitting a secondhand one which might have other damage :)

We've just fitted an RS192 (also a scorpion so same fitting) and that is blowing on the joint, but I reused the old clamp (waiting for new one to arrive but wanted to crack on with it) and havent yet used any sealant until I get the new clamp as will only have to clean it off if I do sealant now before I get the new clamp.

Not irrelevant unless this is a brand new srn019, 100% worth checking as ours was exactly as described in post but turned out to be partly the centre box (the lip on the outside of the silencer) and was blowing onto the decat... After sealing and changing the clamp we could not work out why it was still blowing, thus checked centre section and found the mentioned issue.

The Clamp is more likely to be your issue but before you refit new clamp and paste, I would check it as of this is an issue for you, you will end up undo'ing all your hard work to get it back off for a repair :)

Only offering my 2 pence :)

don't know why people keep buying these crap fitting exhausts, they're dreadful

The bit he is on about not sealing is exactly the same as on the standard exhaust, identical flange and uses the same clamp, its a direct swap.

And the RS192 also fits straight onto the standard original renault 182 mounts as well, what could be easier?

I use black silicon normally when assembling exhausts. Sounds crazy but it does actually withsytand the temps.
Gun-gum etc go too brittle and break apart.

Could link any you've used Chip? Looking at putting my decat back on and I want it air tight compared to how it is now.

Also do you recommend any sealant on the manifold side? I'm sure mine is blowing slightly and it had a brand new genuine fitting kit on

I just used a generic black sealant. And one of the uprated clamps with two bolts. No blows at all now.

Spookily quiet for an aftermarket exhaust. Sounds almost standard. Its epic on the motorway.

Manifold kit needs to be flexible.

Sealant wise is used black high temp silicone sealant from halfords that did the job nicely.

Missed the comment about manifold. No I don't use sealant there. Just a new genuine manifold to cat kit.

Ahh okay, I think it's blowing slightly on the flat face on the manifold. Will get some silicone from Halfords this week and get it fitted. Hopefully get it more level and it looks a little on the saggy side.

Any recommendation on an exhaust clamp for the olive joint?

I use genuine only, the cheap onse strip the threads before they get tight enough to clamp

Any idea on the price of genuine clamps?

This is what I used last weekend on ours, worked a treat and I cant imagine why anyone would feel the need to tighten it more than I did so not really sure what Danny is on about unless he's used even cheaper ones than this, lol.

If you did strip the threads though, then just buy a couple of better grade bolts I guess, but like I say you would have to be really over tightening it badly to do so in the first place.

Ours seals perfectly with that on.

The other advantage compared to a genuine one is that because its two piece if you ever did have a problem, its a piece of cake to get on and off, as the gen ones you have to open up quite wide to get off the cat to clean it up and reseal it and its easy to bend them doing so.

a bit under £7. They look identical to the cheap ones in design, as the one piece original hasn't been sold by renault for a long time (years) but they're much better quality. A small premium to pay when they work first time every time.

I forgot to update this. I replaced my clamp with a genuine one and was resealed by a garage.
I've noticed my problem gone once the exhaust gets warm so maybe I need to check any leaks before the decat.
