Scott's Clio 172 Cup

  LY Megane R26
Popping over to Rhys tonight to fit the rears, I felt bad going over after I heard the bad news but he said its fine and we can start ripping his to bits after.
So I'll update later with some pictures of the rear later;) cannot wait to get that arse down!

  LY Megane R26
Well I went over to Rhys last night to fit the rears which tbh we done fairly quick! We didn't set them two low as the front is still on sportlines but it certainly lower than what it was with sportlines on the rear! So I'm a happy bunny!
aeef3043.jpg

We then went for a little drive, mainly to hear the home made induction "k-tec copy" filter that Rhys fitted to his car not so long ago. But as some of you know will be sadly off the road for a while:(

The car felt awesome! The rear felt so more planted and I could feel the change straight away! As for the induction noise it is rather sweet, so will be defiantly building one up soon!

Its just a couple of 90 degree silicon bends joined together with an ITG filter on the end and can be made for around £79:)

Im hoping to fit the fronts sometime this week/weekend as well as tie rod ends and ball joints. We could then hopefully get the camber spot on with Rhys gauge and over the weekend get the toe set up correctly.

I will then need some spacers for the front and rear but I think I have sorted the rear with Dan:) and hope 5mm will be enough?

Also bought pure motorsport solid top mouts which should be here today or tomorrow which will be fitted when I do the front.

Cannot wait for it to feel "pin sharp!"

Will be interesting to see what you get on the rollers with that filter setup, it theory its great but im yet to get any results better than what ive had with a standard airbox with a standard filter! For reference I gained 0.5bhp using a V6 box bolted directly to the tb with a Pipercross 'race' filter on my old car compared to a standard ph2 box... lol. :D

Nice car btw, love cups. Coolants abit low :p

  LY Megane R26
Not that bothered tbh mate, weather it looses 1bhp or gains 3 lol, the sound is just worth it IMO!

Cheers man, and yes it is a bit, weight saving! ;)

My bhp changed 10bhp from using different airboxes and rs tuner maps  was lower than it should be to start with, ended up being 172 before I sold it :) Had 174 outta my current one so all good. Your cup should do well anyway, they always seem to be better than standard 172's due to the lack of aircon :(

  LY Megane R26
Yeah I'm not sure what mine is, hope to get it on a RR one day when Danny or the EOE section arrange one:) Doesnt really bother me the figure as it feels good to me:) I would like to do some engine mods but there's not much you can do until you start going silly! I still run the standard cat! Just cba with changing over cats etc for MOT!

Pretty sure the induction will gain slightly! The ktec allegedly does, so this should.

The noise is worth it imo, i sold my pikey induction last night. Car sounds dead with a ph1 box now.

I'm pretty sure it will make no difference and if anything loose a little, as above though I doubt it will be anything major. Bare in mind I made 174bhp with a ph2 box with a new Renault filter compared to loads of other 172's making alot less running aftermarket setups. In regards to the Ktec setup, we all know they bulls**t, looks at the gains for the de-cat... rofl. Thats not meant to sound c**tish btw, im a nice guy face to face as you well know :) (no homo).

Well there fitted!
Went over to Rhys Beals on Friday night to fit the front coilovers, along with pure Motorsport topmounts, fresh ball joints and track rod ends, sort out the ride height and then adjust the camber.

Started with the passenger side track rod end and ball joints and what a pain they where! Track rod end was just spinning the thread while trying to undo the nut which we tried everything to stop. So in the end out came the hack saw to chop the nut off. Next was onto the ball joints which where a pain to remove with out a splitter but we sorted it with a huge hammer and chisel.
They where done and then the hold shock was removed.

Moving onto the next side and they seem to be alot easier, maybe it was because we had a rough idea on what to do:)

Sorry for the lack of photos, but you all know how it is when ya hands are black and your getting stuck in;)

Next it was onto fitting and drilling for the pure topmounts onto the turrets. Placed upside down on and lined up straight following the instructions and using string we began drilling.

This photo was taken earlier on in the day at work to show the initial build up on the strut.

Now these where a pain to fit, once mounts where screwed onto the strut I then had to hold it and place it through the turret and then get Rhys to screw in the 3 Allen head screw which where a tight fit, very tight!
Final in;)
38d97a62.jpg

Now that's it for photos of the fitting process but it went into to bolting the shock onto the hub which was set to max camber on the top slot. Everything was tightened up and then onto setting the height. While setting the ride hight I placed the 5mm spacers I got from dmallet onto the rear and couldn't believe the differance they made!
Once the right height was what we thought spot on we set about adjusting the camber, finally got them both sitting at -1.5 degrees and we was happy!
Wheels where bolted back on, lowered down, camber gauge was recalibrated and check again through the wheel onto the disc -1.5 degrees:)
Finally it was time for a test drive at around 1.30am! Down some b roads in the middle of the night on roads I didn't know in the wet wasent the best test but the car felt good! Tracking was a little out but not to bad considering we changed the track rod ends:)
We did find tho the rear rubbed like crazy!
After dropping Rhys home on my way home going over the speed bumps I also noticed the exhaust hits the rear axle which sounds dreadful! So knew I had to raise the rear.

Next morning on I set about raising the rear and smashing the clip in the front arch to stop the rubbing. It certainly stopped the rubbing on the rear and front is not so bad but the exhaust still hits on those bumps so I think it's a trip to renault for some fresh mounts!

Took the car off to thread first to get the toe done and I asked for 12mins out, dont think they had a clue what I was on about but I think they set it to 5 degree toe out, that sound about right?:/

Also that day I gave the car a good needed clean after the awful weather, so thay was wash, glaze with black hole using a DA and a wax with auto glym HD.
While I had the DA I also gave my lights another polish up, so excuse the masking tape in one photo:)

Also gave the bay a wipe down to show off the top mouts:)

Today I went off to the mothers from a BBQ first time I car the car a drive on normal roads rather than town, it felt so good! but the miss's moaned its bumpy and stiff and noisy;) there set a 12 clicks front and 15 rear so if a turn they down slightly will that obviously
make it more soft and comfy? Not that I care what she thinks lol but the rear might be set a little hard:/
Also the tracking drives straight but wheel is slightly not central, it feels stiffer pulling it to the right but not so much the lleft so may have to look into that!
Pulled up at my Mums and total forgot how low the car was and pulled up to the curb, got out the car and it was a little to close for liking!
c4508b73.jpg

I then took a few photos of the ride height but tbh I just been so busy to take any properly in a nice place lol.

The miss's cant hate it that much as she asked me to go the bendy way home for some fun:)

Im a happy man and must say thanks to Rhys for all his help!
But I must fix that exhaust as its getting on my moobs!

Height looks very similar to mine :) Did you fit the front spacers in the end? I had the same problem with the wheel being not straight, when ive had it on my old car it was down to the camber being more on one side than the other.

How hard is it to alter the camber with camber bolts mate ? Is it just turn the
Bolt to the right setting ?

Stunning looking cup mate !

Also with the pure motorsport top mounts did they come with them
Little spacers that bolt under the mount ?

Slide the bolt on the strut, its really obvious with them in front of you, however its much harder getting both sides the same!

Make one then? It's cheap, easy and works! Plus they sound epic ;)

Might do, but its got a join in the middle which might restrict the air flow slightly? or wouldnt it make any real difference? and lack of oil return pipe.

Still the job thats been done looks very good no doubt!

They came last Monday and had the wrong bolts that you bolt the spacer to the hub with, M14 instead of M12. So after talking to a American who knew nothing about cars who when she asked what the product was I said "wheel spacers" she then went on and "veel, v, e" I said "NO! Wheel as in a wheel on a car, the thing that goes round and round!" anyway they got hold of the parts team who said the rest of the spacers came with M12 bolts so they would send me out some new ones.
These came yesterday so where fitted but as always no pictures as yet only one of the spacer on the hub.

The cars behaving lately but I might get in on a four wheel alignment so I can see what it's all running. Me and Rhys set the camber to -1.5 when we fitted the coilovers with a gauge and we checked it the other day through the wheel and they both wasent that far out!
It pulls slightly to the right on some roads and some roads it drives dead straight!:/

As Greeny said mate the shocks are on slots which you tilt the coilover forward or backwards. But when using a gauge you have to make sure the disc is at the height it would be when it's on it's wheels which can be a pain to get right.
Not sure what you mean about the little spacers under the mount but if you check out this thread it should give you an idea how I set them up. But it was basically Spax Collet, pure spacer that then slots into the top mount and then the top nut that tightens down.

Good progress buddy! I regret selling them headlights to you... Hate my angel eyes =(
Thanks mate;) You can have them back for £200;) I see you're progressing well! Have to take me out when it's done!

Thanks all you locals and imprezaworks;) There wasent no reply from my last update, now it's gone mad:)
I was thinking about ripping that off the other day Dan actually! Is it ok to just run with out a heat shield, or what should I been looking at to bolt there instead?

I haven't done much to her lately, gave her a few washes, came out one morning after a night of rain and found some beading like this after the polish and wax she got a few weeks back.

Took this the other evening aswell

I gave my Sabelt wheel a wash the other day to, hung it up at work to dry out.

Came back after lunch to find this!

Idiots I work with!

As said above, yesterday I fitted my front spacers that finally came. It now scrubs a bit so might have to look into that before the trackday on 30th!
Barging at £55 from amazon for FK spacers, which if they got the order right first time would of been better, but not sure it was there problem:/
Yesterday I also drained, flushed and changed my coolant and tank.
Was easier than I expected tbh, only pain was getting the bottom rad hose clip back on as such lol.
So it now has a new clear bottle and some alien green Type-D coolant, looks awesome!
Failed on pictures again! But have a few of the bottle differance before fitting.
5245754e.jpg

Tank was another bargain at £13 from eBay:)

I'll get more photos of the spacers and coolant one day and post them up!

Hoping to buy Rhys oz f1's over the next weeks but unsure on what colour to paint them or weather to run them full time or keep them as track wheels and Turini for everyday which also need a good refurb!
Also want a half cage like yours Lewis which I'm also debating about colour!
And just cannot wait for the trackday! Roll on the 30th!

Cheers

£55 off Amazon for spacers? lol link me? :) You have a wider track than me as standard anyway but I have a feeling I will rub with 15mm fronts, fitting 5's for time being.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B004CY5DMK that's the link mate, mine rubbed like mad but on Sunday I undone the clip to the bumper and then smashed the hell out of the bracket.

Now my bumper is not held on by that clip but tbh it ain't going to go anywhere as you still have the 3 clip things that hold it in.

car is mad clean man!
Cheers mate, appreciate it:)

Got a few more photos of the alian green coolant:)

Also on Sunday after smashing the bumper clip I removed my fog lights.

Car is now ready for track tomorrow, and I cannot wait!
Got an evening at Snetterton 200 tomorrow but the weather don't look to good at the moment, but im
sure it will be good fun!
Cars also booked in to have the alligment done again before the track so touch wood that's "pin sharp"

I will report back tomorrow after the track!

On Sunday I also pick up these.

From Rhys that last night I started sanding down. Planning on cleaning them up and spraying them myself but I'm unsure on a colour yet:/ white?

Cheers

Are your spacers 10mm each side thus equaling 20mm or just 20mm each side?

Great looking cup by the way dude!
