WRONG!

i can keep up with a 182 to 100ish in my clio, but had a play with a cs member who has a yellow vx na not turbo and its quicker than a 182 easy!

i havent got the pics of the vx but its a blue one and only got 6,00miles on the clock and its a 2001 mint* never realy driven so its like new:D they also do a maxogen kit or it!! lol cool. its not as powerfull as a clio 2.0 16v lump but its only 780kg. well i tihnk u all know about the vx anyway

so u dont think its a bad idea then. no1 has had any bad views?

Turbo = swap.

NA = dont bother.

To be honest I didnt even find the turbo mind blowingly quick. The NA is only quicker than the Clio from 0 to 20, its still only 168 per tonne and 25 bhp down on a standard 172. I had that 2.2 engine in my Vectra though and it has a shed load more power and torque than the Clio at lower revs. More driveable for sure.

its the N/A i cant get the turbo! too much all round for me plus i dont mind cos the VX doesnt loose much off the car if i want to trade in a year or two for the VXR version!

thought so,

so whats with all the turbo references???????

he wants a 2.2 16v, which isnt a turbo

well alot of people say the turbo cos it does have more power but it doent handle as well? well thats what iv heard anyway if it wasnt about money or insurance i would go for the turbo and VXR but i want to go for the well priced 2.2 and have just as much fun! a 2.2 is not far off the turbo tho:)

get a vx220 thats what ile probly get next.a 2.2 16v one not turbo.u can pick them up for around £11000 everything about them sounds pretty good mpg, speed looks etc..ive never been in one tho.i dont know if this is 100% true but in evo magazine its timed at 0-60 in 5.6 and 140mph top speed (i think) it will hold its money better then the clio too....do it :D

For me I would not sell the clio and get a VX220. I test drove a lightening yellow ltd edition a couple of mnths ago and it was really disapointing. I had looked at them for a while and was really keen but it felt so fragile and the build quality was poor all over. It looked good from a distance but up close it all looked cheap. If you can live with it everyday then fine but I was just tired of it after about 10mins and I wanted one for about a year!

I found it loud, windy, your so low you can hardly see anything, and rock hard. Another bad thing is that its a vauxhall and also I think that the design of it is looking a bit tired now and a bit hairdresser. I think the new updated facelifted one is coing out pretty soon.

As for all the comments about not using it every day...........

I drive mine 120miles a day at the moment, did 220 miles yesterday because of the maidenhead meet.

I love it, it makes me grin every time I drive it.

As for the 2.2 v 2.0Turbo, dont write off the 2.2 just coz it doesnt have a turbo  Its still a quick car, with a very torquey engine that pulls all the time.

Yes, I loved my 182, but I love the VX for as many if not more reasons.

For the "Why dont you buy a lotus people"..... Why buy a 6yr old Lotus thats done more miles when you can buy a 3/4yr old VX? VX has lower insurance, lower servicing etc.

im sorry but just because its a vauxhall why does this make it bad? i know vauxhalls arent the best in the world but saying that it being a vauxhall is bad is just rubbish

I found it loud - its a sports car (doesnt have sound proofing)
windy - its a sports car (doesnt have sound proofing)
your so low - its a sports car (low centre of gravity)
and rock hard - its sports car (with sports suspension)
Another bad thing is that its a vauxhall - BUILT BY LOTUS (still has cheaper insurance and servicing than the Lotus badged cars).
and also I think that the design of it is looking a bit tired now
personal opinion really
and a bit hairdresser - Ive not had anyone say my Lightning Yellow is Hairdresser, even the CS guys last nite at the CS meet. I think the new updated facelifted one is coing out pretty soon.
Not for a while yet, its still in VERY early concept stages.

i still cant believe renault owners still have the cheek of using brand snobbery

vauxhall are a far better manufacturer of cars than renault, greanted, renault sport cars are exceptionasl value for money, but vauxhalls are much better built, more reliable (IMHO) look better throughout the range

  Weeman sucks ****

From my past experience of driving the N/A VX Id say get one. You cant compare the 2 really and youre gonna get all the sh*t comments from people in here that havent driven one. Theyre not necessarily that much quicker than the cup tbh. More experience will give a good advantage definately.

Both pukka cars, both great fun. Do you want a roof and bigger boot or no roof and birds looking at you not thinking...chav. (I can say that cos I get it in my cup lol).

Bryan, I agree. My mate had the best service from any dealer he delt with when he had his VX.

Listen to Coco!

Great cars. If you can do without the rear seats and boot space do it and by the look of your Clio it will be a better match for you.

Vauxhall versus Lotus. Easy choice for me as I have a Lotus – but I did consider the VX and do like them. It is basically a Lotus anyway with it being a reworked Elise built at Hethel – the styling was done by some Aussie so there isnt really much of Vauxhall in it aside from the mechanicals. I think they just needed something to try and give a bit of sparkle to their other cars that are all dull.

Dont discount the Lotus. It is a nice thing to have and mine makes me feel really special when Im driving it knowing that I am in a car from a company that revolutionised F1 and had the likes of Mansell and Senna driving for them. Im not a badge snob (Im going to by a Renault FFS), but if you are a true petrolhead having a Lotus will do it for you.

All that stuff about running costs being more is a bit far stretched. They are no less reliable with one using a Vauxhall unit and the other the Rover K-Series, the hourly rate is a little more at Lotus but they are better trained to deal with your car properly as that is all they do – not Corsas and Vectras with the odd VX. But if you want to save a packet go to a specialist.

One VX I cant argue with though is that Turbo. A lot of people in the know rubbish it for its power delivery but it is astonishingly quick. There cant be a better value performance car out there – imagine that turbo chipped too!

Buy a Lotus (or a Vauxhall badged Lotus) and youll get totally uncompromised sports car. Youll be a better driver after 6 months/a year. They are very, very quick too. All that stuff about a 182 reeling one in is wishful thinking. When you drive an Elise (or VX) you soon realise that spec sheets dont tell you how fast a car is. 0-60 in under 6 seconds is only part of the story.

There are some nice Vauxhalls on there too.
