Selling my classic mini to buy a 1.2 16v clio

and spend a shedload on ecu/wiring etc?
most iv seen have been running twin 40s, be it weber or delorto. for the std 8v setup a nikki carb isnt a bad upgrade from the single su, unless youv already upgraded to the bigger hs4. got quite good gains with my nikki, and had a cool little window in the float chamber lol

Keep the Mini for the summer and buy a throwaway daily drive scrapper for the winter. Tax and insure them for 6 months at a time.

Oh and there's a good reason why my Trophy's numberplate is T21 AOK...

You're now a legend in my books already sir! ;)

This isn't any normal Clio/Car forum mate. You'll find that out if you stick around. Even if you never buy a Clio!

I had about 25 posts before I sold my 1.2 Clio. It wasn't a bad car. Wasn't unreliable. Just a bit meh.

You'll regret selling the mini. Believe me. Can't you spend some cash, some mods and make it more reliable?
 
It's just the fact that they're not as reliable as a modern car and they are seeming to be quite the target around my area at the moment, even though it's not a rough area I just think people are travelling around taking them... :dapprove:

You don't understand how much of a pain they are as a day to day car until you've done it, I've pushed my way through a year already, winter was a nightmare!

Agreed. I've still technically got a clio, and will be buying another one at some point when insurance allows. But I'll more than likely be a member on here for a good few years to come.

...So long as I don't get banned before then.

That's a fair point mate. I certainly wouldn't want to do bad winters in a mini unless it was garaged at night and reliable.

The reliability has been fine, not the happiest of cars when it's freezing but she'll run :approve:

The little things like, frozen locks, the windscreen freezes a sheet on the inside and the outside!
My front and rear window demisters do not work, the wipers don't park themselves and the indicators don't self cancel.
Minor luxury in a mini believe me, nothing is done for you ;)

they're not crap at all, mine was a brilliant cheap car when I was 18/19 it was comfy, cheap, reliable and fairly good to throw around constantly revving the nuts off it on coilovers. However, this was coming from a ford escort and a vauxhall astra... hardly high performance fun cars.

Coming from a mini, the clio may be more reliable and comfier, however as a drivers car it wont be as much fun and wont be as enjoyable to drive around in. Based on all that it depends on what you want. If you spend more time throwing the car around a B road than cruising down the motorway then the mini's the winner, if you spend more time on the motorway then the clio would be better but a DCI clio would be better still..

It's not that I spend my times on motorway's etc, it's just the safety of my mini I hate leaving it anywhere and the fact that I wouldn't want to say drive my mini to alton towers for the day (2 hour drive up the motorway from where I am) so having a mini just feels slightly restricted to what I can do :dapprove:

It sounds to me then that the right idea is to sell the mini. If your looking for a clio then by all means there is nothing wrong with a 1.2, however do an insurance quote for a 1.6. When I had one all them years ago I think the 1.6 was about £50 more a year to insure than the 1.2 :o

I'd keep the mini personally. A friend of mine has just sold his and is regretting it already. (Although he has another actually ;) )

Probably give that a miss, an extra £500 ;)
 
If you're wanting to sell up due to winter wait and sell it at the end of Summer. Least you'll get 'decent' weather till then before the big freeze starts.
 
As the insurance on it is up in under 2 weeks is what is making me think about it a lot more because I'll either go for a 1.2 clio or end up keeping the mini again, but like I said whenever we go anyway long distance I need to get a mate or something to sort it for me, would just be easier to have a clio that I can park anywhere without worrying and go long distance without problems :approve:
