**Seriously check you mounts!**

My 172 died on Friday, and i am now driving a lovly Yaris 1.0.

I have noticed for a few months now loud clunking under acceleration. This has been getting progressivly worse, so i have visited renault on many occations to get it looked at. However lots of other things have been wrong with the car (master brake cylinder leaking) therefore they refused to test drive to diagnose the problem. The car was finally booked in for them to look at this clunking noise for a couple of weeks time.

On friday the Clunking got alot worse, and i discovered that the ECU metal cover had sliped of its mount (above the battery) and was flapping about, so i went to renault in my lunch break to get it looked at. The bloke took one look at it and said "fu*k me" The engine mount under the battery had totally failed, the battery was sitting at about a 25 degree angle and the engine was resting on the subframe. God knows what other damage there is have 2 wait until next week for that suprise.

Moral of the story. If you have clunking or knocking under acceleration demand that renault look at you engine mounts ASAP.

is the damage covered by warranty?

specially as its their fault for not checking it, and ppl wonder why i hate dealerships so much lol, they have no idea about anything

Or even better, demand that after paying for the cost of the actual mount itself, Renault repair any associated damage at their own expense seeing as you specifically asked for this to be checked a number of times and each time they blew you off.

had that on a few 172s.the centre mount stud nut comes loose and the stud shears off.the only reason that it doesnt do a lot of damage is that the other mount on the subframe keeps the engine from moving around to much.

Id get them to check all the other mounts the extra load of them may have damaged them.

Tell them you want some checks done on them and on the subframe damage may have occured to the mounts as there not supposed to be loaded as they have been.

I can image them saying at a later date when the other mounts give way that its not there problem and its normal wear and tear so get them to do non destructive testing on the parts or replace them.

on all the ones ive done the subframe gearbox mount thankfully prevented any damage occuring.

Well, the bloke who looked at it said that probably more than just that mount would need replacing. They are going 2 take the engine out to check for other damage before they order the parts.

All this on a 7 month old car that mainly does motorway driving. Pah.
