set up question for better air flow ?

hi guys i think now is the time to upgrade the airflow on my 172 but with everyones opinion i am wanting to do the following:-

itg panel filter - anyone get this cheap for me please
removal of acoustic valve and standard air feed (a how to guide on how to do this would be excellent)
hillpower or another 45 degree elbow which one and which is cheaper he he
a bigger air feed routed from the front grill directly into the standard airbox which size is better and place to get it from?

will this a good set up guys seems to not cost alot but gets good feedback generally
cheers again i cant justify 300 plus on a maxogen or viper etc etc

cheers

removing the valve is easy

jack up passenger side and remove wheel

if i remember there's 1 or 2 torx screws under the bumper holding the liner, but i can't remember

now to remove the plugs the easiest way is to use an open ended normal spanner around 15-17mm will do, doesn't matter, use this as a lever to prise the bung out (its the only way to do it without snapping them

once thats out of the way, you'll see the valve and the horn, they're both held on by the same bolt which is a 13mm, undo this and remove the valve, there's 1 electric connector and a vaccum pipe connected to the valve, undo these

tie the connector up out of the way, and block off the acc pipe

bolt the horn back in

job done

cheers bud thats great thanks for that mate..what you think of the above set up any good at all? anyone else cheers

Sorry to jump inot the thread but we are asking the same questions so its not worth starting a new one.

I have an Pipercross pannel filter on the way. Can exactly the same be done to my 1.6 16v or is it a different setup?

What is the small box about 15cm square between the air box and the start of the cold air inlet? (it goes Back of headlight >> tubing section 1 >> Small box >> tubing section 2 >> air box on the back of engine.)??

I'd Leave the valve in place...it'll make no difference removing it.

Hillpower elbow will look good but will give no improvement in power.

Airfeed from the front will also give little gain.

ITG panel is a winner though:D

cheers guys i though this valve was an easy mod that gave better throttle response but i may be wrong he he...where else can you get elbows from any websites etc and would a stainless steel one do the same? cheers guys...mk1 172 dont have the valves on them that is why they are reported to be quicker matey

just a silly question guys i know open induction kits are crap etc etc but which is better a k&n pipercross or powertec?

The K&N does have a metal gauze but won't get as warm as the powertec one.

Heat shield had arrived for mine now, so will fit it and see it improves things. All experimental!! Can always go back to the orginal air box if im not happy:nono:

tim - thanks for the pics mate got them cheers where did you get that airbox from anyway looks like a good idea any way......let me know how that heat shield goes mate anyone had a pipercross fitted do they sound nice and anyone had any real sap in power cheers

cheers mate thanks for that how did the heat shield go matey? cheers

Will post pics later mate. But with it being so hot at the moment there is no real benefit. Unavoidable for any car not to get hot with the weather at the moment. I can confirm since removing the acoustic valve and then adding the heatshield, I have noticed an improvement of low down response/acceleration. Only minor, but still improved. Still not sure I can say its made it better than if I had an air box with a panel filer. But I love the Induction roar too much to change!
