Should i buy a 182 ?

Im 19 and have 3k burning a hole in my pocket, the original plan was to buy a fiesta st, buy the clio's like a better car with more spec. A friend had a 172 and had loads of trouble with his, something about a limp home mode/ engine power loss / not starting. Is this a common thing on these cars? Also if you think i need to know anything else about buying one ( things to look for) please tell me! i know about the cambelt issue and defaser pully. Can you win me over?

as above.

that 3k will probably get you insured on a 182. But then what have you got left to buy the car with, and run?

You'd probably be better off looking at a Puma than either of that or the ST.

I'd do it. Epic fun and they are nicer inside than a Fiesta.

Why not?

I bought a brand new 200 at 19.

TBH at 19 id rather have not spend a fortune on insurance, id rather buy a fiesta zetec s.

All the running costs of the 1*2 plus the cost of insurance and buying the car itself .........

insurance isn't a problem, i want to know about the car pleaseee! Oh and being 19 with 2 years no cliams £1200 = cheap fast car.

Im 18 and have a arctic blue 182 and its soo much fun honestly! it was £1300 for me to insure which isnt that bad for my age to be fair. Are you technically minded ? if so then you will not have a problem with it.

Lol. £1400

That would cover my tax, MOT, insurance, servicing, new tyres all round and still have change.

Mind, you could buy a 172 for £1400 too. You poor young sods.

(Or, more likely, have to use it to replace 3rd gear, get the belts done, change the buggered driveshafts and top mounts)

Not being funny mate . But you've just summed up the reason why not to buy a 182 . Get a couple more years driving experience under your belt , 2 years isn't an awful lot , save a few more pennies , get your insurance down . There'll still be plenty of 1*2's about in a couple of years time , cheaper than they are now , cheaper insurance etc ... 3k won't get you a 182 and pay your insurance .

If you have the money just get one...... It's a clio not a Ferrari. They are not that expensive on running costs at all, 15" tyres are cheap, get anywhere between 25-31mpg around town and much more on motorway. Servicing can be done on the driveway with a spanner cup of tea and packet of fags. Only thing that cost a fair amount that needs to be done by specialist is Cambelt and dephaser pulley. I went straight from a 1.2 8v d7f clio to my 172 after 2 years driving so if you do get one go easy when you first get it, not because of the "power" just because you need time to adjust to it being a different car with different characteristics.

I've had my 182 Cup for 7 years now. Apart from servicing, brakes and tyres (and a few mods) I reckon I've spent £300 on it doing 41k :)

£1200 is a cheap insurance quote for a car like this, i currently have a 306 hdi which i think standered is 90bhp, that is 1100 to insure. it may seem expensive to you, but to use young drivers anything under 1500 is acceptable haa ! especialy with 180 bhp !! :rasp:

Touch wood, so far my 182 has been the most reliable car i've owned. Had it 12 months to date, only thing i had to replace was the rear shocks for £100 (due to fitting eibach springs) Other than that its cost me £160 for service at BTM, and otherwise just consumables like tyres, mot, tax ect.

Such a great little car IMO!

Im only 20yrs old. My insurance was reasonable and I love my car. Best thing I have honestly ever bought !

All this bulls**t about French cars and unreliability is a load of tosh. I had a mk4 golf and a fabia vrs previously and they were soo unreliable. The golf had three gearboxes and the fabia had to have a new headgasket !!

I think most of the Clio issues seem to be cheap little sensors here and there which costs pennies really.

Nobody needs to win you over. Your just foolish if you don't buy one :)

After all, 3 grand is pennies for a car these days, when a new bottom of the range 3 series starts at 23 grand !!

Good point, never thought of it like that.

When a brand new SL65 is more than 100k, it makes my 12-year old MX5 look like incredible value.
