Should I... Engine removal related!

My 172 needs a timing belt, its 5 years old and is on 61k. Thing is, it would also benifit from a clutch, it judders when setting off etc.

I was looking on Autodata, and the book time for the timing belt is 5.5 hours, and the book time for the clutch is something like 7.5!

So, i looked at the book time for taking engine out, and it was about 7.5 hours round job!

So with the block out, i could kill two birds with one stone, do belt with uber amounts of room, and do clutch!

But am i creating more work for myself, is the block a biatch to get out?

not really mate i think its quite easy, drop the frame down, leave the loom on the enigne and just disconnect it from the relay box and stuff.

No its much easier (when doing both) if it comes out. Ive recently had this done on mine.

7.5 hours to take engine out but that just engine out then the claucth etc and cambelt is ontop of that. Personaly I'd take it out though if you have the tools etc.

I assume you has Aicon if so then remember that either you have to remove the ari at the same time or else regass the setup.

Engine out not to bad personaly I'd take it out the top though. just disconnect the looms drop the collent and engine and box oila sna dlife it sttraight out preferably without the aircon gased.

Well i work for Ford so im sorted for ramps and toold etc.

I didnt realise you could leave the loom on it, thats excellent! Got a Ranger engine out atm, and the wirings a nightmare!!

Once blocks out though, its a doddle! Bell housing bolts, and cam cover off and we're living the dream!
