Sigma 18-35mm f1.8

Yup, not a typo, Sigma have announced an 18-35mm zoom lens with a constant aperture of f1.8. I had to check the date to make sure it wasn't an April Fools, as nothing like this has ever been done...

Saw this earlier... looks good and here's hoping there's floodgates open for fast lenses 'for the masses' !

I'd guess £500-1000 (bit broad....) but only because it's a niché at the moment for crop sensor cameras.

It's nice but for me wider angles don't always benefit shallower depth of field, perhaps as a low light lens or for star photography as f1.8 at 18mm would enable longer shutter speeds without stars blurring.

Just a shame (for me, anyway) that they appear to have stopped releasing Sony A mount lenses!

I think having some shallow DoF at a wide angle could give some awesome images, I like it, however it's going to be way out of my price range.
