Single throttle body

  Qashcow
hey, have done a quick search and couldnt find much.

im after making my PH1 172 just that little bit quicker but not on a massive budget at the moment. the cars currently got Group N ecu remap, piperx induction and stealth exhaust. would it be benificial to look towards a single throttle body like the GDI conversion (cant afford full setup...) and if fitting the single version, does it NEED a new ecu etc or can the current ECU handle it?

also, how re-programmable is that standard ecu or isnt it? im after more power without giving it to someone else to do everything and spending much more than 1000pounds.

and no suggestions about getting the brakes and driving sorted first, have seen to that..

GDI TB conversion is basically the same as you have anyway bar a slight bore increase so no point messing their

fitting a bigger boddie wont give it more power matey, its the linlet and plenham which are the problem!

unless you spend mega cash, there not worth tuning IMO!

for 2k you could fit the new DTH boddie, injectors and have the stock ecu re mapped (if paul can work it out) if not add £500 to that price for a vems, omex etc

Main reason why 182's and mk2 172's like GDI replace the TB for a cable type is because there's a delay with the throttle with the electronic fly by wire system. With owning a mk1 172 you dont need to worry about that as you already run a cable set up

I think a next good step would be a set of matched inlets, your never going to get massive gains without spending silly money on these engine..

I already have a magnex exhaust system and ITG air filter set up.

In the next few weeks ill be fitting a 182 exhaust manifold with de-cat, a set of matched inlets and having the car remapped

After this it will proberbly only be 185 - 188 BHP, anything after this any more tuning will be costing £1000's i.e cams, throttle bodies/enlarged single throttle body, headwork etc etc..

well i think its more to do with the fact the OMEX and the likes can but choose not too run FBW

Omex have locked out the function on there ECU's for legal reasons Mk1 throttle cables are better than the electrocnic bodies and that ignoring the fact there just more reliable and cheaper to fix.

oh well, probably my dodgy computer skills at work

anyway

when i did the first conversion (using the jenvey ETCC 64mm) it only gained a tiny tiny amout of power over stock, however it made the driving experience better

expensive to do

just buy the renault sport kit if you are going to do it, or go see hillpower or yozzasport (who supply and fit the r-sport kit)

you did post that, i red it before? where did it go :S

cool well that answers that one then, the matched inlets are only about 180ish arent they? if im talking about the right thing?

will spend a bit more on the brakes and suspension in that case. i always knew the engines were hard to get much out of without spending uber cash.

the matched inlets, are they a 2 piece unit, with the writing on the top? semi daft question but i havent seen my engine for 2 months as im traveling. im hoping to buy the bits prior to getting back to the uk and fitting it before returning to work :)

would the 182 manifold and decat make much difference, ive got a sports cat and k-tec stealth system currently
