smooth ph1 side strips

my cars in the garage at the moment so thought id do something with my scabby side strips, they arent perfect just yet but thought id show them as iv not seen anyone done this to the ph1 strips before not bad for a first attempt tho i dont think!

cheers! not properly colourcoded yet, just painted them whatever colour i had knocking about so i could see how well it had smoothed in

I am impressed tho, What did you use to smooth them?? and are you going to use high build primer to coulour code them in the end??

if hes already sprayed them its too late to use high build primer as high build primer out of a can doesnt like to go over the top of aerosol paint, especially if its been lacquered. best bet is to try and get away with filler primer

why would i need to use a high build primer?

To get rid of the bobbles in the plastic, this would make it all smooth just like the cars bodywork. You need to sand the paint back to plastic to be able to do this because like mark said the high build primer does not stick to paint!

ah, i see what you mean, but i started by sanding the plastic itself, till i had a flat surface, then light coat of plastic primer, flat back and then a coat of regular primer, flat back and colour, done this everytime iv painted dimpled plastics with spot on results, the hi build primer iv seen applied can still look a bit off, i thought best to start with a decent surface to begin with

Mike had this done to his Ph1 172 bump strips, and that looked spot on!

maybe i'll do it to one of my many spare sets of bump strips...
