Soft-Touch Plastic - Replacement?

Hi all,

The door pulls (and to be honest almost all the soft-touch plastics like the clock surround, hazard panel, ac panel etc) are getting pretty bad...despite almost never getting hammered by UV, I guess it's just an age thing!

The door pulls are so bad that my fingerprints show on them.
I've seen methods of stripping the soft-touch off, like soaking in Detol etc. and then re-spraying with a matte lacquer on top.

However, I seem to recall that a specific model of Clio had exactly the same plastics, just without the soft-touch on....anyone know what that was, and any part numbers?

OR, worst case, anyone know
1. A paint colour / code that closely matches the original colour of the trims?
2. Can the panels like the hazards etc be stripped of the soft-touch, but retain the screen printed text? Or does that all come off with the sticky stuff?

Base spec Clios have plain plastic trims.

You can use elbow grease spray to remove the sticky layer also. Just don’t use any solvent on them.

Did a Plasti-Kote treatment on my interior grab handles years back - and to be honest, they are still good to this day.

Was saying to @Matt Cup just today that I'd like to do similar with the centre console if/when I remove the dash.

Top dash in my phase 1 needs done before I take it out this year. Anyone sorted one out properly ?

I soaked mine in dettol for a couple of days. All the sticky rubber coating just disintegrates, then it's just a case of cleaning off all the remainder, then sanding down and spraying with plastic primer.
I sprayed mine with some dark grey metallic spray ( I don't have the code number to hand, I can post that later if you're interested) from Halfords and finished them off with some matt lacquer from Halfords.

They look better than the originals and still look like they did when I fitted them in November.

Anyone know what the centre dash bit is called, the sort of rubbery surround that includes the top "tray", then comes down around the clock and air vents? is that a separate part to the dash itself?

Did the basic Clios also have a non-sticky version of that?

Standard/non sport have non sticky versions. Buy a full dash top and swap it over.

Elbow Grease Spray / Cream Cleaner + Microfibre and warm water got mine off. Wasn't the easiest or quickest thing to do but I really wanted to keep the metallic finish (that the pov spec interiors don't have)

If you just take the sticky layer off, is the underlying layer fine on its own? Every guide I’ve seen they end up painting and lacquering the underlying plastic.

I seen some interior plastics on an aventime that had the same issue with worn soft touch. They cleaned it off and sprayed it in plastidip. Looked quite good, like oem.

If you could find a suitable match, it might work.

Its just plastic similar to the pov spec ones but with metallic flake

Have you lost those little grommets where the screws go too? Wouldn't mind getting two more of those.

No, I've still got them. I sprayed them too. I've just noticed I took the pics without them lol.
I wouldn't have a clue where to get some from.
This is the Halfords colour I used for anyone that's interested in spraying theirs.
