Some eBay people suck!!!!

Brought a brand new Pioneer DEH -P88PRS last week and was so happy to get it for £262. Checked it was english as the badge on top of the player said pioneer so thought i had got a deal. It arrived today and guess what, is says Premier making it the american version meaning cant pick up any radio stations. Absoulty gutted, have emailed the bloke and am awiting a reply, surely if his picture online has a pioneer badge on top of the player he is false advertising. Please tell me i'm right????????

Think i'm gunna try and get my money back and go for the Alpine 9857R from car audio & sercurity.

So beware dont belive the pictures on eBay!!!!

ebay is a total mixed bag, the pic definitely one of the product, alot of people put in the small print that its just an illustration.

Also in the description does it mention america/ us

was looking at a pioneer 9800BT on there as well, cheap as chips from us but no radio so gave it a miss. unlucky mate, they are b******s as a lot of them state that they are uk based

yeah, you should be able to pick up FM radio stations with that no problems proving the equipment actually works, US radio stations broadcast between 87.8–108 MHz FM the same as the UK.

that aside, the listing actually says you are bidding for a pioneer branded unit, so you can get him for selling goods that are not as described, you should get you money back.

All depends on how they are being broadcast though. I'm ashamed that I can't remember my basic comms modules from uni, off to bed now but can explain tomorrow (if Brian hasn't got in before me )

But as said above I thought the USA had pretty much the same FM freq. range as us, not like in Japan where if you have a JDM radio the freq ranges don't match up (i.e. we could broadcast up to 108mhz but the radio will only pickup up to 98, jsut an example the numbers are made up ).

What I do think is that USA use a different RDS system (or none at all).

Well he does state " example photos " , but on the other hand it does say its a Pioneer and nowhere does it state its the american version .

I'm a bit baffled as well , as 172.com says , radio waves are radio waves . If it's definitely not working report it to ebay , thats all you can do really .

Found a few bits out:

You will lose RDS station tuning, although the name and text from the radio station will be displayed whilst in a good reception area as they use a slightly different RDS system.

More importantly all American FM radio station frequencies end in an odd number. so the tuners are usually set to tune up and down in .2 increments along an odd scale, so you might not be able to tune in to any stations ending in an even number. You can change the frequency search stepping on some radios, I know I've seen it on my Pioneers in the past, but then they've been uk models.

UK tuner stepping is in .05Mhz increments.

Thanks for the advice lads, he has been in touch this morning asking me to close my paypal dispute so hopefully if he agrees to refund me i'll send his HU back and all is sorted. Didnt really think it was screaming stolen at the time but maybe your right, either way not going to use eBay again for buying stuff like this. Shame because it could have been a good deal.
