Sound Deadening Doors, Inside and out?

Upgrading the front speakers to some 16.5CM comps this weekend. Made a start on sound proofing the front doors. Started on the outside of the inner face of the door and then proceeded to actually fill all the sides I could inside the door 'cavity' as such. (Back of the inner face, round the edge and then back of the outter face)

My logic behind this was that any normal house speaker is enclosed in a box and that to trap sound in the cavity and bounce it back into the car would be similar and therefore best.

However I've seen lots of photo's where people have also covered the outside face of the inner edge of the door.

Is this essential in helping to improve the quality? or does most of it come from covering inside the actual door?

I've got **** loads of the stuff (40 sheets of 350mm x 270mm roughly) so it's not a problem if it needed doing I just didn't want to add anymore unnecesary weight.

Thanks

BennyC
