right, i bought a mk2 phase 1 y reg 1.2 sport 2 weeks ago, and i was driving home from college and it gradually started sounding really loud. so i was just wondering if it had happened to any one elses car or might know what it is. i think its the cat because it comes from that area, but i dont really know.:S

sounds like the exhaust or the cat or even the manifold mate take it to a decent garage and get them to put it up on the ramps

Probably the exhaust giving up. If it is, replace with a nice stainless system, will last a lot longer, Renault exhausts are poo.

its coming from the front end i.e manifold, and cat. the back box is new and the rest of the system seems ok.

open bonnet and check if the air box has come off

if its anything like mine they are a crap fitting and come off at every bump you hit!

no it hasnt, but thanks, that was a problem for the previous owner i think.

Alternator bearings? Take it to a garage tbh

fixed, was a movable joint connected to the cat meaning that the whole cat had to be replaced was £150 so wasnt too bad.
