space saver wheel for Cup

Had a problem the other day. Got a puncture and the hole was too big for the spray foam to do its job and seal it ( foam was just coming back out of the hole, and it was on a dark unlit road!) And yes I did jack it up to take the pressure off the tyre!

Two hours of waiting for recovery truck ensued.

Needed = light weight (as light as two spray cans of emergency tyre foam preferably!!!) space saver (renault hasnt got a clue) and couldnt offer any suggestions.

  MEGANE

Wont get anything that light, Buy a spare cup wheel, wont make any difference to the performance!!!!!!!!!

Get a 13" steel wheel from an older Clio, R5, etc... with a 135 R13 tyre on it.

Smallest, lightest wheel/tyre youd get and easily available from most scrappers.

Thinking of getting one for mine for long journeys...

Will add approx 15kg of weight, so not much difference to performance, but it will make a difference to your wallet!!!

Why carry an expensive wheel & tyre round as a spare?! Get a steely.

Wouldnt I need something that has the same rolling circumference and all that stuff? My old MK2 16v golf used to have a space saver and it was specific to the car. Or is it a case of its only temporary to get you home so it doesnt really matter?.

15kg = 16.85% of the performance difference between a MK2 172 and a Cup. If Id bought a car with the stuff stripped out to improve the performance, Id try not to start filling it up with stuff again! Might as well have had the aircon etc! ;)

True...

I dont want to put one in, but its times like that at the side of the road in the dark, pissed off, with reno assistance saying theyre going to have to send out an emergency tyre van who will charge me £50 just for the privaledge because "I HAVENT GOT A SPARE!!!!", That you start to realise the impracticalities of the Cup, love it though I do.

I argued, and by explaining to the nice lady on the other end of the line that the Cup doesnt come with a spare!!!???, they sent a flatbed truck to recover me, meaning I was about £100 better off the next morning as the emergency tyre van would undoubtedly inflate the cost of the tyre they supplied.

BEWARE!

ive junked my spare for a can of foam, tyre places say they cant replace a tyre thats been filled with foam thats bollox they just dont want too cos its a horrible job

a spare typically weighs about 18kg ive got a sub box and amp which weighs more or less same as spare so im back to normal weight without it
