Spanishflys track toy.

  Astra coupe t, nova
Well as some of you know, i've decided to break the nova. This co-incided with me buying a clio on ebay. It was a spur of the moment thing.
This is what it looked like when I picked it up.

When driving it back the brakes were shocking. They were in need of replacement. So I ordered up Brembo HC front discs, renault std rears. Then DS2500 all round.

Old discs... they had half worn pads on lmao

I also painted the brakes yellow
41280_10150254311730018_699605017_14097657_1522310_n.jpg

Then it was time to do the cambelt, I had decided to do a few other things at the same time.

So I matched the inlets

So onto the cambelt... this is needed

I fitted a new engine
47450_10150260516635018_699605017_14263668_1530191_n.jpg

I also did a cold air filter

58537_10150263324925018_699605017_14342305_6415463_n.jpg

I then gave it a clean with water and soap. Then used some gold class wax stuff

New number plates
46781_10150261624940018_699605017_14289646_5795025_n.jpg

I then bought some Eibach springs.
The rear dampers were already new, so I bought some standard fronts. I also did the front topmounts as these were pants!

Old top mounts :(
46773_10150263325675018_699605017_14342321_2667463_n.jpg

I then bought 4 new tyres for the standard 'f1's'. I decided to get Uniroyal Rain experts. These make good wet trackday tyres and good road tyres.

I then had to sort the passenger seat, as it wouldn't really lock into place... Whilst doing it I saw these...
41190_10150263408840018_699605017_14344461_6598665_n.jpg

59015_10150263408940018_699605017_14344462_7857605_n.jpg

I removed them and it lowered the seat around 20mm. Makes it nicer to drive as I know sit in the car not on the roof.

Me and the missis then had nowhere to go on holiday... so I suggested a road trip to Europe. This meant one thing really...

So after stripping more bits of the nova (and getting upset)
I decided the clio needed attention. So as I had just taken the roof vent of the nova, it was to my shock the thing fits on the clio well. Looks ace to, now gotta decide if I should let Willay have it or not lmao
59523_10150270595520018_699605017_14511008_7480566_n.jpg

Anyway I then got the spanners out and this stuff started happening...
60519_10150270687920018_699605017_14512429_4996354_n.jpg

63520_10150270688005018_699605017_14512431_7330781_n.jpg

Then removed tar and was left with this...

With sound deanening and all removed, I think I lost like 20-30kg in weight. Not bad.

Here's a little vid for you all. Dunno why but it didn't record the first bit?
Before any comments, I wasn't going out there to beat anyones times, lap records etc. I was going to have a bit of fun, take Traci out on track (who felt sick) and learn the car abit.
I enjoyed myself and Traci did too.
As you can hear/see I took it quite easy, and gave space to slower cars (unlike some) and let faster cars through. This meant I drove the car home without any crashes:)

Oh and I need a couple of new engine mounts as the engines moves alot! lmao

This was also done with full interior and spare etc as it is on the road.Video

  Astra coupe t, nova
The above was all copy and pasted from another forum. So now i'll put a couple of pics up of said Nova..
These wheels will be going on the clio with the yoko A048's

Basically it started life as a 1.0, I then fitted a 2.0 'redtop' and run it on throttle bodies. This made 195bhp, added to that was 150bhp of nitrous. This meant that 0-60 was made in 4.8 secs (bruntingthorpe) and a 1/4 mile of 12.4 sec. I competed in TOTB a couple of times. Unfortunetly whilst testing the last time the car caught alight (2 years ago). So I decided to rebuild the car, and spend alot of money.
The final spec was pretty mean..
2098cc, 12.6:1 compression, 12.5mm lift cams with 300 deg duration, +1mm paul ivey valves, btb/sbd manifold, arrow rods, jenvey itbs, double springs yadda yadda. Should have been between 240-250bhp. This was mated to a fidanza flywheel and helix paddle clutch. Gearbox was a full quiafe SCCR box. The spec of it all was pretty mighty.
Got the car running and it was due for mapping, the day before the engine developed a death rattle. i later found that one of the trumpet bolts had rolled in the inlet:( Game over for the block and a piston. So I was going to continue the build, however I decided to I wanted to concentrate on buying a house, and in order to rebuild the engine I was looking at around £2000. So I sold my gearbox and bought the above clio.

Don't know if you find it interesting but thought I would add it to this thread:) Oh and i'm new to the renault world, I always seem to buy vauxhalls!

  HBT 172 Cup
Looks wicked mate keep it up, i killed my last ITB engine in exactly the same way. 2 x m6 bolts rattled loose, down the inlet locked the engine up. mashed the piston and obliterated the bore and shattered the piston ring lol.

Yeah I know alot that have gone that way:( Such a shame as it would have been a fun toy, mind you expensive lol

Nice to see a get stuck in and dirty approach, not so sure on the roof scoop mind... lol! It may be better with the aerial removed.
The roof vent has been sampled to upset my mate. He wants it so I'm pretending that I'm considering keeping it. lmao

Nice little read! Nova looked a beast. I like your mentality with the Clio, nice and simple - but effective.

So lil update of today,
I fitted the nova steering wheel to the clio. Feels alot better than the one I bought it with, was off a lower spec clio.

good project you have going on here cant wait to see how it turns out!

Cheers mate, should be fun.

that nova has an awesome spec!

going by it cant wait to see what you do to the clio!!
It HAD an awesome spec. Sounded great when talking about it, but in the end I lost love for it:(
Just don't send me any links to sequential boxes etc lol

Yeah I wouldn't use the foglights anyway so I reckon there going. They look heavy too.

So my current dilema. Do I get a new exhaust system or go for the safety approach and get a cage. I'm thinking the latter, as although it will add weight, it also adds strength to the chassis and of course safety when I fit the bucket seats. I've been looking at the OMP 6 point ones or a Yozza race system.

  200 FF Storm Grey
I'd work up from the basics mate imo, so a good solid exhaust first, it's the way I've personally gone.

Look forward to seeing the progress though mate, what did you decide to do with the roof scoop?

I've also started with making the nova wheels fit the clio... go bored though.

  Astra coupe t, nova
So this turned up. At first I wondered if I had bought something random on ebay!

It's a BTB system in 2.5" Mandrel bent and upto there usual standards! It sounds good too when I make car noises through it.
Some trick bits..

They even make and supply you with a bracket as normally it's a one bracket system, these tend to break causing crap.
63847_10150278790085018_699605017_14706009_1254186_n.jpg

Hoping to fit it on thursday along with my braided brake lines and bleeding the brakes with ATE super blue. Next tuesday I got a brands trackday, should hopefully be good:)

  Sprint 172
BTB stealth is a pretty nice bit of kit isn't it. On another topic - Do you see Lee H. often? If so, tell him that Matt Searle says hello.

  Astra coupe t, nova
So fitted a new system to the car, this went pretty easily. Looks great, sounds nice and not too intrusive at all:)

33440_10150280088365018_699605017_14728649_4831136_n.jpg

I then moved on to fitting these... Rear came off and went on with no problems. Front came off easily too, however when I did the new ones up the flare nut still moved meaning they wouldn't seal. So I took them back off and now got to either change the nut on the vehicle (has about 2mm without thread at the end) or new lines. Think i'll try the later and go from there. I'm considering fitting a 'cup' master cylinder anyhow as this would mean losing the ABS system. Re-bled with ATE blue.
62833_10150280017295018_699605017_14727325_3148011_n.jpg

So this done i'm now moving onto getting the last two nova wheels to fit the clio.

  Astra coupe t, nova
So as I got a track day at brands tomorrow and the weather was dry, I used the time to get a bucket seat from the nova into the clio. The standard seat is soooo heavy!
47051_10150282889185018_699605017_14790818_7815638_n.jpg

You can see the weight
64413_10150283045340018_699605017_14794095_1724495_n.jpg

I also took out the cd changed under the seat:)
65313_10150282889275018_699605017_14790819_5908505_n.jpg

Have made it so I can move it forward or back if I need to. Seems ok as it is, bar having to close the door abit harder due to the seat and doorcard mating!
46296_10150283042845018_699605017_14794018_394184_n.jpg

It also meant more weight saving for now by removing this lil lot.

So I then fitted these lil stickers...

At brands I had a guy come up to me and say 'they are expensive seats aren't they, is that why you have one' Lol... my simple reply was 'no it's all I could get out the car before the police turned up and I had to run away'. Thought it worked well. He knew I was lying:(

Looking good Rob, Why have you got the white Nova wheels on in some pictures and the F1's in others?

  Astra coupe t, nova
cause the white nova wheels had a048r's on them, I couldn't get any heat in them in the wet. To the point the fronts only went up 1psi in T.P. after a 35-40min session. The rears were touch cold. So I put the uniroyal rain expert wet tyres on... sods law is that it dryed up a fair bit in the afternoon lol. Still don't think it was dry enough for any heat into the yokos. Alot of people were putting there road tyres on in place of semi slick stuff.

  Astra coupe t, nova
Cleaned the track day dirt of the clio and cleaned the coupe at the same time:)
