Spark Plugs - 1.2 16v 03

Car has been in Renault in Chelmsford since 9 o'clock this morning. It has been miss-firing and loosing power. I just got a phone call telling me its my spark plugs, they rekon this will cost me £97.53... is this a good price?

Only bought the car in june, shouldnt this of been found in the MOT and service before the car was sold to me?

thats a rip off!!!! plugs are about £30 tops

Have just spoken to a guy i know who is a retired mechanic, and he said he can get plugs fitted for about £25 for me!!! I am going to kick up a fuss when i pick it up!!! they must be gold plated plugs from renault!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

you do need a slim tool to fit them, they're more like bike plugs

iirc there a mm under the normal spark plug size, think there 12mm plugs. Whichever size it is a socket for it is pretty much an airtight fit down the plug bore.

Right... heres the story... I went to collect the car, was getting ready to have a go at them... the lady handed me the key and said 'i have spoken to sales, and they agreed to let you have it done as a goodwill gesture on behalf of renault, so your car is all ready to go with your new plugs'...

funny how they can fit a £100 job in the 20mins it took me to get down there to pick it up!!

1-0 to the customers!!

Nope... wont use anything apart from BP Ultimate! they tested my oxygen sensor just incase and it works perfect....

14mm long socket, 8" 3/8 extension and a magnet :rasp:

Can be tricky though, I've snapped one before (Faulty plug, absoloutely shat myself though I'd cross threaded it) hammered a T-50 into the coil and undone it.

Those long port things are pretty good though, no dirt can ever get down there

cant belive that i work at renault and im sure they are only £5.50 a plug 14mm as said^^ ^ pice of piss to fit 10mins most..

LOL! such a mark up on parts and labour!! Would renault of used a set of new spark plugs to check to see if it was the problem? left them in there, and then phoned me and told me the price expecting me to just say yes? i wernt having any of it!!

they probs did.. thats what i do. they probs said it was so much so when u got there you were happy and would recomend them and make you think you had an amazing deal . they might of said that was the price for the pligs .. fitting them and diagnositc time mabye? than its not so bad if they charge the min of £50 an hour and took them 30mins to find the problem.

nope.. dont think i will be going back there again... unless its something majour, that can be fixed under my warrenty saving me £££'s.. cheers for your help buddy! :approve:
