Sport 172 Brakes + Discs - Advice Please

Hi guys,

Im from the the mother country currently living in Sydney and im running a 2004 172.

I got quoted today $1350 (778 pounds) and then later they came back with $1117 (644 pounds) for new discs and pads all round.

After some research on 'cliosport' on here it seems Maxtorq discs and mintex pads will do the job for me as i only go from A to B and dont intend to do any track work.

Im looking at around 290 pounds ($500) from Auto-nation/Kamracing for the above.

I have a few questions for you guys....

Would those products be ok for my needs? Do i need to purchase brake lines or will the existing ones be ok? & lastily is it fairly straight forward to fit these or would you pay the 190 pounds they were asking to fit them if i supplied the parts? If i supply the parts and pay them to fit it all i can save around 150 pounds!

Just for expense comparisons im having that reverse light problem that seems common on the sports and I was quoted 76 pounds for the new sensor yet ive seen prices of around 12 pounds quoted on here!! Seems running a European model is bit of a rip off!!!

I would say something like

I would say they are quite easy to fit no need to bleed the fluid just swap the pad a discs over, I certainly wouldn't pay 190 for fitting.
As for braided lines, they give a better and more responsive feel to the peddle so for the sake of 60 odd pounds they are worth it, again they just swap straight over. Plus while you have the wheel and discs of you its very straight forward.
for 117 pounds you cant go wrong and more than enough for road use.
I'm sure if you speak to Northwest Performance or a similar company they might be about to ship them to you are your cost.

Ok thanks for the advice! yeah i nearly choked when they quoted me that price and thats not from a main dealer!!!

Just standard discs/brakes for the rear?

Im returning to the uk for the world cup so was planning of just buying the parts and bringing them back thus saving on freights costs too

yeah good idea, My advise on the rear would be to get the standard discs and pads, as your will find most of the breaking is done on the front so no need to spend loads of money on the rear.

Not sure about the rear sensor, but for 12 pound if might just be worth buying one over here and trying it out when you get back

the Maxtorq is slightly cheaper than the Brembo HC, but both will be more than up to the task at hand..

for rear discs its easier to go for oe discs as these have the bearings pressed in already..
