Spraying my rear diamond

  F56 MINI Cooper S
Planning on spraying my rear diamond to match my front over the weekend. The only thing is i have heard that once i have taken the diamond and surround off, i am left with a big hole/gap. Is there anyway i an prevent this just incase it rains etc? Can i screw the surround back on without the diamond on or will this not work? Any more tips would be appriciated. Thanks

Yeh you would be left with a gaping hole, but you should be able to put the surround back in without the diamond on. Then you would have a smaller hole to temporarily seal.

Which hole is this? Obviously the boot lock button stays in?

if you follow that you can put the boot lock back on without having the diamond on so it gives it time to dry etc :)

After you got the diamond off you could, if you were that worried about rain, put masking tape or something over all the little holes shown in the second picture i took.
thanks mate, in the second pic of yours, is it just the 4 tiny holes that are left? if so i could probably cover them as its supposed to rain tomorrow.

Is it just a case of pushing the diamond back on? Ive heard that they need glueing back on?

In all honesty it depends how through you are with removing the glue out of what i call "the 4 lug holes" . I just pushed mine back into palce and its been fine, mainly because i didnt break those lugs i reckon.

The lug holes are the small rectangular shaped ones on the right hand side, under the round hole and in the recessed area. (sorry if you gathered that!)

When I did mine i left the back interior panel covering the lock off so i could do stuff quickly. But basically yeah just cover all the holes and that should do ya (if it was me a wouldnt worry as the boot lid as drain holes for water anyway)

No probs, Just take your time :) oh bit of advice to make the glue easier to get out of those lugs holes you could try using a hairdryer on low setting to soften it .You shouldn't have to but I have no idea if they used different types of glue!

Had a go at it today. Got the 3 bolts off (the bottom one is a b**ch to get to). Once i had the bolts off i couldnt get the whole thing off. I tried pulling it hard but it just wouldnt come off, is there anything im missing here?

Right, i've just got the rear diamond off. Once i've sprayed it does it just clip back on or do i have to re glue it?

Whats the point in spraying the diamond a different colour ? It won`t improve the car and most people won`t even notice! lol.

I fink m8y that there is glue around the clips originally so you should put some on just to be sure :).

All done now, just stuck it back on my car. Superglued round the holes to make sure it doesnt come off. Looks smart!
