Spring next to Aux Belt?

So it seems some sort of spring has decided to chew my aux belt to pieces..

Does anyone know why this would randomly happen? Car is going straight to my mechanic in the morning.

Please bare in mind that my mechanical ability is that of a toaster. I fitted a new air filter the other day in a record time of 4.5 hours, and considered that a great success.

Advice appreciated.

that is the auxiliary belt tensioner, when it goes bad it sort of bends. You need a new one basically. ASAP.
