Squealing Brakes

  White Sti Hatch
Right this has been doing my head in since i got the car and the stealers asure me theres nothing wrong with them but there has to be, its been happening alot as of late always when im pulling off or moving slowly through traffic but if i stick the handbrake on lightly the noise is gone the same goes with the foot brake soon is either is released its back again ive even tryed driving for a bit with the handbreak on (bad idea i know) to hopefully get rid of it but with no luck.

Anyone have an idea of what it would be pads or discs ? or even the calipers them self....

Cheers

squealing brakes is usually caused by the vibration of the pads. All they need is some copper grease applied to the non friction side. Do a search no here for copper grease and brake steal and you'll see.

im getting a bit of this now...dont know if my pads might be rubbing a bit. The most annoing squeak is when im reversing it sounds like a high pitched squel.... sorry to jack the thread but anyone know what this could be?

is copper grease doable on your own diy style?

Fair bit last time i checked will have a look again after work

hmm. could be water in the caliper, try a spot of WD40 in the top bracket. My 172 when sitting around does it quite a lot and i sprayed some of that on a treat on the caliper.

Could be that the callipers are very slightly seized?

Does not sound like the brake pads moving as that makes a much less metallic sound.

May be worth getting them off and getting a wire brush and some WD40 on them if it is just a little seized.

Or try and squeeze some new discs and pads out of Renault - but good luck with that!

Dont have a clue how to do it so not even gonna try rather be shown how than use a guid as kinda depend on the brakes working :boring:

Just spared some WD40 on the calipers so will see if that helps hopefully it will
