Starting trouble with a 1.2 16v

  182 Cup
Every now and then this fucker just wont start, all it does is click click but no fire!
When I put a set of jump leads on it will fire no problem and go for a few days before it happens again. I suspected the battery but last week I drove to Dublin (100 miles) and when I pulled into the car park and shut the car off. I immediately went to fire it up again as i'm paranoid about it and it just clicked! Surely the battery would have got a great charge on that drive?

Help!

  RS Megane DCi 175
Try replacing the battery altogether - they dont last forever and it's probably one of the cheapest things to rule out.

Has

  RS 182 - Black Gold
TDC sensor common problem on these

About £20 from Renault.

Then move onto the moreexpensive things such as Coil Pack etc...

  1.2 16v Dynamique
Check the wiring loom running under the dash near the bonnet release on the left hand side, sometimes can be loose and results in the immobiliser kickin in. I had this problem for ages, broke down a while back and couldnt get a jump, called highways to tow me back, charged me £75 +vat to plug the wire back in.

I'm presumin it'll be in the same place? I've got an 01' Dynamique

Tried a brand new battery, didnt help at all.
I left the car running for ages, turned it off, then tried to fire it up., Click click.
Perhaps it is the starter after all?

I had this problem with my old valver a while back. It was due to a weak Earth connection.

I was getting power to everything in the car but when i tried to start it, it just clicked once and didn't do much else..

I think as you jump start it with jump leads you are providing it with a good earth which allows it to start properly..

The mechanic said the starter was s**t but the battery was also quite poor, both have been changed and fingers crossed it seems fine. Will know for sure when I leave the car at the airport for 2 days next week!
