sticking no plates on

hopefully my new plates will arrive tomorrow, instead of drilling them i bought some double sided tape. can the two strips hold one plate on ok? iv got a pack of four and just wondered how well they cope. i know matb uses this methob so are you out ther mate............................

just wondering if its overkill to use waste a pack of fou on one plate

They are pretty strong. I used 2 per plate when I did the ones on our Megane. Once theyre stuck it takes a hell of a pull to get them off again!

I used three on my back one, two of which were used to cover the holes that were left. Very strong.

Pain in the ass to get off, i had to cut the pads in half, then spend a good hour scrubbing the sh*t off the nunber plate and then car.

Im using velcro !! f**king lovely job !! Stick on perfect and nice grip on the plates and bumper.

Its a piss of piss to fit and I can whip em off when needed !! (Late night blasts ect )

Oh and its easy to remove from the plates ! No sticky residue !!

Why not just use the pre-drilled holes in the tailgate and front bumper. Then use a pop rivit gun to fix them in place. You can still use the colour coded caps, white,yellow,black to cover the rivits.

Simple.

i used a roll of double sided tape for mine, cost me a pound from b&q. i thought they might fall off when the tape got wet but it has held up fine

Ive used double-sided tape a few times in the past. Looks much better than those stupid plastic cap screws. Important that you clean the back of the plates and bumper thorughly with meths or similar to get rid of any crap or polish residue etc. You just have to check them if you get a hot spell in Summer (which is like hens teeth thses days) as the adhesive can soften. Better to use a double-sided tape that has a thin foam base allowing a bit of flexing as again the number plates expand during hotter periods (like when they bow in the middle with screw fixings. The wife is getting her new 1.6 16V dynamique on Sunday. Were swapping private regs between Clios, so plan to fix plates on both cars with tape. Hope this helps,

I asked at the local spares place and they gave me some double-sided foam tape thingies - four for each plate.

As above, make sure the plate and mounting point are clean before attaching.

And use a hairdryer to remove the original plates - if theyre stuck on too of course

Luckily the bodyshop has agreed to fit mine while my cars getting some crash damage repaired (at a snails pace )

Heavy duty velcro. That way you can change your plates whenever you want, plus you can run around with illegal plates, and if you get busted, produce a completely legal set of pre-velcroed plates that you carry everywhere with you. Theres not a lot they can do if you can put it right there and then.

Fancy telling ppl how to break the law.

I love it! Never thought of that - but its not true. If you have SMALL plates you could produce a legal set and put them on, possibly without being charged, but if you were to have false plates - you could get a £2000 fine and 6 months of porridge!

Ask my brother in-law. Traffic Cop - love em or hate just dont get yer sister to marry one!

I was thinking Double Sided Tape, but it sticks and thats it. Possible removal of paint on removing them.. although, you could be very careful and itd be ok!

Velcro is ok but Id be worried if people took them.

Screws are the best bet, but they dont look as good as the smooth look.



I think Ill use double sided tape for mine..

I PAID 45 QUID FOR SOME NEW PLATE AND USED THE PADS TO STICK IT ON - ONE WEEK LATER THE REAR FELL OF AND I LOST IT - NOT HAPPY

Double sided tape is fine, just make sure you use the thin strips and not the thick ones! I know loads of people whove lost plates using the thicker variety, Ive always used the thin stuff and never had any problems.

I replaced my plates and used tape, used 4 stripes per plate. The f**kers at renault drilled holes and istead of using the pre drilled ones done their own and i already have f**kING RUST on the rear. Dumb w**kers, bet if it was their car theyd give a f**k!

Hmm, I think I want to use sticky tape.. Although, Surrounds are quite cool - drill the surround onto the bumper, and then the plate slides in and locks - no drilling or sticking of the plate that way.

Dunno if I want the totally smooth look though (no surround) so double sided tape is probably the option for me..

I do have show plates though, so if I want to put them on, the only way is to put them over my proper plates!

LOL Bob, thats exactly what I got done for in Doncaster last year. But no fine or jail term, although they did try to put the wind up me. I honestly think that having a spare set of completely legal plates is what saved my bacon and made it not worth them pursuing me through the courts. Anyway it was an honest mistake. Anyone could just be showing a mate their show plates in a car park then accidentally drive off with them still on, with two police cars following us out of the McDonalds car park..
