Sticky Front Calipers

  SQ5
Tried a search but wasn't much info.

When brakes are applied they tend to stick on solid, we forced the caliper in and out a few times and can be pushed back in with ease do I'm guessing that's fine.

Greased up the sliders and still doing it, they don't move freely though by hand, possibility that there bent or something silly. I think this only happened when I changed brake pads.

Any other things to look out for, does it on both sides?

Cheers

Sliders should be easy to move and move freely possibly something wrong with them, not sure if you have to use a certain grease in them either could be that if you have greased both sides up with the same stuff. I'm not 100% so just throwing ideas out lol

When you put the pads in did they go in easily?

If there is a build up of corrosion behind the little mettle springs this would stop the pads disengaging from the discs

Pop the pistons out and check them. Could be that they're starting to seize from corrosion build up.
They need to be nice and clean to allow the piston to retract properly when the brakes are released.

For the costs involved I'd just refurb them with a seal kit personally. Big Redd sell them for about £30.

Mine did this and turned out the sliders were dry as and the pistons had started to rust as the seals were knackered. Ended up just buying a new set of calipers from ECP.

Yea do not move freely, both greased up and made sure of no air lock.

Ferodo DS2500 so no rattle pads and they have been filed so can rattle when cold.

Is that for both sides or individual side? Worth getting a new slider kit too? Best way of cleaning out the pad carrier part?

Doesn't someone here get a discount at ECP?

Yeah the seal kit will do a pair of calipers and comes with the slider bits as well, but not the slider pins. To clean the pad carrier just use a file, but don't got ott and remove a lot of material.

@masekwm is that for a pair too? I was debating on getting a cheap set to refresh my rear setup as one is a little dodgy and £90 is fairly cheap

Just found a pair for £79.80!
Carparts4less have the usual £15 off a £100 spend. The calipers are delivered free and you need to return the current ones to ECP to get the surcharge back.

I got some Bigg redd refurbed calipers off eBay a few months ago. Not sure if they are still on there but they were £70 for the pair. Brand new piston, seals, stainless bleed valve etc.

It's £109 to have both front callipers refurbished by bigg red, either electroplated in silver or gold, usually a 3 day turnaround, that would be the option I'd pick, the callipers from ECP etc don't include new slider pins etc

Does the big red one include the caliper carrier too then?

I'm sure when I looked yesterday it didn't, only the actual caliper.

IMO it will be the sliders. Someone had refurbished mine with copper grease only for them to seize quickly again.

Degrease them and the carrier bore thoroughly with brake cleaner and only use ceramic brake grease on both. Assuming they are not bent they should be free to move upon working them in and out. Half of mine were almost seized in despite a recent pad and disc change.

Also, take out the slider plates and derust the areas with sandpaper or a wire drill attachment. Regrease the area before putting the plates back in place. This should improve the brakes alot.

Here is what I did on mine via my thread. 2 months on the brakes are miles better than before with even wear taking place. Yes the car really did destroy a set of discs within 10k due to IMO inadequate work being done.
