Still Running On Original Exhaust

I have read a lot of threads about how sh*t the standard pipes are.

I.E rust and fall off



Mines of a 52 plate and still going strong.


Bracket replaced on last service but other than that looks fine.



Any one else got a 52 reg or older still running on the original pipe.

I've got a 52, it fell off on 37k.

Maybe they ran out of kit-kat wrappers when they came to make yours?

It's only a 52 plate. My exhaust fell off about a year ago (X reg). 40,000 miles.

How many miles you done?

I think the OE exhaust on my [52 Plate] MK2 172 has now done 62K. I say think as i when i brought her she was on 46K.

Done 44k now and its still on.

Is milage a big factor I would have thought it would be the age of the car??

Only 23k should be alright. They tend to go around 40k

Got fucked off the third time and went for a stainless jobbie. Which was great but gets on my tits a little bit now.

172, 02 plate, 41k miles and still on orginal exhaust.

My mums year 2000 W reg 1.4 alize is on the original exhaust (we bought it new so i know it is) done 69k and its never been touched, the middle section is like new almost, the rearbox is a little rusty in places but no blows yet.

Its always been kept out side and driven in all weathers too.

The back box on my old 172 (03 plate) just decided to fall off at 40k.

1 minute it was there, next it was AWOL. no warning at all. but thats renault build quality for you lol.

If you do short runs the zorst is still damp inside and will rust and fall off

i had 2 exhausts in the time i had my 172 cup

I ONLY HAD IT A YEAR

both done under warranty but when that runs out it will be a yearly buy

I had my center section replaced under warranty at 25k 2 1/2 years old.

It didn't fall off, just the 4k rasp was getting really bad.

A friend of mine exhaust lasted 70k on his 02 plate 172, then the backbox went.

Is it just the bracket that rusts & makes the exhaust fall off.


This was replaced just before I bought mine so fingers cross mine should be ok for a while.

Sort of the brakcet cannot hold the weight the way it is another bracket welded in place would fix it.

My 52 plate 172 did have the original exhaust on when I brought it a year ago and it looked okay.

Still decided to replace it with something a bit more sporty & durable though and went for a K-tec Stealth.

52 plate and approaching 28k. Apart from replacing the back box hanger bracket due to the rubber perishing, mine is still going strong.
Considering a Ktec Stealth come the springtime though....
