Stitch/merge photos in PS Elements or similar

I have a map of Jersey cut up into 8 separate pages. Is there an easy way of putting it all together?

Its an old drawn map, by ze Germans and would be much easier to read and use in one piece.

Any ideas?

I tried panorama in PS Elements and a photo stitch app but it only does 4 pages (correctly) but wont match up the other 4...damn it.

The only way I can think of is making a huge page to start with and put each one in as a layer and join them manually, using the opacity to join them up correctly. Its how i used to stitch my old biking sets together. A ball ache but the only way I know how.
After its done, resize it to something manageable.

Doing it manually has got to be the most accurate way, especially with the fact you're doing maps?!

There is a built in piece of software for doing this.

It's the same one used for Focus stacking photos (which ive used it for)

No idea how well it will work - but CS5 does a 100% perfect job on stacking.

(you might find you need overlapping areas for this to work - so it might be a non starter)
