strange object found in engine bay??

hi folks,

i was cleaning my engine bay today and found what can only be described as a large black lump of square metal!!
it is located the other side of the protection cover for the auxbelt.
next to the drivers headlight.
i have recently had the powersteering pump replaced i just wondered if something had been left in the engine bay or they have forgotten to screw something back into place?
The object is not attached to anything but i cant lift it out as the space is to small.
i know this sounds vague but i just wondered if anyone knows what it could be for??

could be the noise supression ballast weight that bolts on under the engine mount,

Yep, weighs loads aswell!! remove them to do the aux belt, makes weaving my girl hands in easier! lol!
