Stuck on a decision - Weitec or KW Coilovers?

  Mini JCW
As per title really. Budget is £650 max, discounted FKs due to reports of the harsh / crashy ride and gaz because of the leaking dampers and poor ride.

So it's down to these two really - KWs will be the V1 variants at £620 delivered while the Weitecs are £467 delivered. Anyone with experience / views on the two?

Cheers

Anthony

The search button is your friend :)

Beleive me, I have searched numerous times - but with the KW V1s due to the two letter acronyms its difficult to search seen as you need 3 letters minimum. With the Weitecs I cannot find many users or user info / feedback with most being age old threads anyway.

So as per my original question - any views?

Cheers for the opinions, so KW Variant 1s it is then. Any other coilovers I should consider in a similar price bracket before I order?

Depends if they have to be new. 2nd hand you could get into AST's or H&R's or KW V2's.

What are you planning on fitting the coilovers for, and be honest. I'm unlikely to be tracking my car anytime soon and so have paid half the price of what you're looking at for a set of V-Maxx as I fancy binning my Apex springs in favour of going lower for looks (and comfort!).

Spend £600 if you're the stig (or in training). Spend £316 in a group buy if you enjoy throwing it around B-roads occasionally.

They don't 'have' to be new, but second hand sets seem few and far between, with me wanting them fitted before the FCS, I feel new is the only route to take.

The main priority was to improve stance and B-road driving while reducing body roll slightly. Regarding the decision to budget £650 - I understand this is still a very small budget and these should be considered 'budget' coilovers, but with the handling being very good already on the Cup, I want to spend as much as I can afford in order to preserve this.

My AST's will be for sale very soon. Would be slightly over budget though. IMO, for purely B-road, Eibach sportlines and new standard dampers would be the best bet.

if you are after the car to be good on a B road then coilovers or not realy what you are after but if you are after the look then they are with coilovers you get what you pay for dont go for cheep ones i would stick with H&R's or KW or even a set of AST's if you have the cash for them

I understand they will create a harsher ride, but as you mentioned the stance is important to me aswell as gnerally firming up the ride.

I think it will be the KWs then, unless I see some ASTs in the classifieds within the next week or so.

Cheers :)

Thing is, if you have a 650 budget. You still have to pay for fitting 50-150 (unless your handy with the spanner) and then you have to pay for setting up 100-150. So theres a possibility that you will be paying another 150 to 300 on top of the coilovers. Just a thought, but this has probably crossed your mind already.

From experience i can reccommend v-maxx's. They answer the questions you've wanted on what you want tbh.

But if you have a bigger budget, definally 2nd hand H&R's or AST's.

Fittings sorted - got a mate with another cup whos helping me fit them, so no cost incurred there. With setting up, that will happen almost immediately after FCS. Cheers for the opinion - like I said I have considered but also discounted the vmaxx setup and with my budget KW seem to be the way to go :)

Contacted tweeks today, and made a major mistake on my part, I forgot to add the VAT and delivery onto the price which came to £738.

So back to the drawing board - Konigsports anyone?

Vmaxx do seem pretty difficult to beat for the money. Been told they ride a bit firmer than H&R.

I'm inclined to agree actually, for £400 they represent good value. I think i'll await the revised kits to arrive before I order though.

I had considered the same options myself but as I don't intend on tracking the car I have just an hour ago received my Eibach sportline springs and 2 new standard 172 rear shocks from ktec as the old ones were beyond fucked.

Anyone else running this setup? How much you think \i'll pay for getting the springs and shocks fitted. Not much I wouldn't have thought?

Depends who you know. I had my best mate's brother fit my springs for a tenner a corner.

I'm assuming these are the same shocks from a cup as it says on the ktec site "as fitted to all 172/182 models"

All OEM shocks are the same except for the Trophy IIRC.

Theres a thread there if you search for supercup inlet. It's the first one that will come up (P4iers or something). Not available yet but should be very soon. Apparently sees similar gains to ITBs through improving airflow efficiency and for <1500 smackers. Great bang for buck:rasp:

Update - I ordered some KW V1 coilovers for £638 delivered from Kam Racing, looking forward to them arriving now!

Thanks for all the help :)
