Sump and tank guards for rallying

Looking at doing single venue rally's next year where's best (cheapest!) place to get them ?
Demon want £300 ish for sump guard !

A bit of interest here then, I think the sump guard could be a home made jobbie but would need to have a good look under the rear as they may need a bit more bending etc

Im sure OMP do a sump guard, theres also one that you can buy from renaultsport but dont think its much good. Renault one is below.

surely you can make your own sump gaurd. And as for the tank why not run a fuel cell mounted inside the car ?

Simple, they cost a fortune.

I ordered a Renaultsport one but was on back order for months. Rsport ended up giving me my money back, if anyone can find a cheaper alternative that 300quid from demon tweaks, then let me know

you can pick cells up for 100-200quid ? run a facet redtop pump or a walbro 255 for less than 70

Id just make a sumpguard up, I modified what i think is a mk2 escort guard to fit my clio but thats just cause it was lying around a bit of ally plate and some imagination will do you well.

As for the tank guard you can just use some thin guage ally or steel sheet bend 1 of the edges on each guard over 90 degree's so you can bolt them onto the bottom of the sill and make some bracket at the back to mount where the tank bolts on to hold the inboard part of the guards. Or you could get a kevlar guard made by magnum motorsport, i dont think they are silly money and allot neater and lighter than any metal type guard. You would need to send them your tank to have it made up though, if you do choose to go down this route could you let me know as ive been wanting one for a while but its so expensive to get a tank sent from Jersey to the UK. 10mm thick ally bolted on thats what hissingsid uses on his clio works a treat just done scottish round of IRC with it

OT I thought I needed a Bars exam for rallying but because I was rallying pre 2001 I dont need one so thats saved me 250 quid, good job I am an old duffer lol

As long as you know your old licence number you can re-apply for it

I work at Magnum, we could make a tank guard no problem, would just need to make a mold. If you could find out if a tank is the same as the one in the twingo II, because we are just about to make one of those.

I not sure they are upto it , they look too thin and all the holes may catch on something. A smooth ones best as it will skid over things rather than snag.

The tank guard doesnt seem an easy fit either and would be a right pain to get out to have a kevlar one made.

It depends what rallying your going to do , no they won't be any good for gravel rallies , I'm only doing tarmac rallies in mine , and most of them will be closed road rallying , so it should be up to the job , if not I could always strengthen in up , if its still not up to the job i'll make an alloy one , but I think it will be fine

Ian could you let me know what its like when it comes down? By the looks of it it might need another skin welding on in places just to smooth it off but for tarmac it looks like it will do the job. Plus im not really keen on modifying another subframe to take my current sumpguard again so will make life easier.
