Sump bolts rounded off

I was confused as funk when I saw them the first time too. Bought a set of sockets to fit em and only used them once, about 3 years ago to do a H/G! Not come across any again since...

when mine went, i managed to cut a slot into the head of the bolt, tturning it into a lareg flat jeaded screw, and got a large screw driver on to it and hey presto.

worked for me

What size etorx are they? I'm doing mine this weekend and would like to see if I have the socket in the shed or not...

Not being my sockets I'm not really want to do it lol! I'll try get hold of an E7 as only have 8 and 6 at the moment.

that's why you fucked it, wrong socket.

Think how i felt when i had an E14 headbolt shear off just above the washer/flange on a DCI a couple of weeks ago

Room to swing a hammer? If you've got a small enough chisel, you can often literally knock them round and eventually loose/out with it.
+1
half of my sump bolts either rounded or where about to round, chisel helped
but I had engine out and bottom up
with engine in it is harder but still possible

Its E8, like I originally said. Danny is on his "I know best all the time" form.

All off now except one, which is fucked completely :(

It was more your drunken ramblings that cracked me up dude. I can understand people not knowing what they are, French cars are the only things I've come across held together with bloody Torx & ETorx.
Dont forget vauxhalls. Etorx bolts are made of fail. The sockets made for them dont sit flush so there is less than a mm gripping on the bolt. Plus they are made of cheese which infuriates me.

This exactly, it just wouldn't go on properly after cleaning and everything, don't know why once decided it wanted to be a little c**t!

f**k you then, I was giving you advice. Lick my balls

Advice is only good if its correct though!

The "fin" parts on the sump make it hard to get an angle grinder in there, plus the head is about as big as a blade is thick! Gonna try get a bolt welded onto it during the week at some point!

die grinder will do it, grind the head off them, i do it that way

when the sump comes off you can just spin the remainder of the stud out

Awesome, mates just got one of these to enlarge all ports on his engine, I shall be nicking it :)

Cheers Fred!

fml. I started this today, got the E8 bit. All they had was 1/2" Drive....

Doesnt fit. ha. Shall have to get a smaller drive tomorrow.

Goodluck with yours Danny

Woo, all done! Took about 6 hours total! The whole subframe had to be dropped, not just the O/S

Got the sump off today, one bolt was lost to the chisel. Can you get new bolts from renault?

Also should I put some sealant on with the gasket?

easier to lift the engine up son!

I dropped a crane off before I started the job :(

don't put sealant on, rubber gasket is all you need, just wipe some oil over it when putting on!

Which one wouldn't come out? Interesting if it's same one! I'm sure Renault will sell, I was lucky I had my spare engine!

It was the one down by the drivers side wheel, on the back corner, little bugger!

Renault do sell them for the record...

just read through this, having the same issues just now, although i only got 11 of the little f**kers out!!!

did everyone end up dropping the subframe??

Couldnt you use easy out bits and a shifter to get off rounded bolts >

Thats what i use, just drill the bolt and use these to ease them out?

Am I best removing the mounts then jacking the engine up or do I drop the subframe?

I've got a new sump and gasket to fit to the Ph1!

  clio 182
what would you jack the engine on though? gearbox?

and drilling it out wont work, got about 3 inch to play with at the drivers side!!

Ah right, space isnt on your side with the F4R :(

Longer drill ends maybe? Most engineer shops can fabricate drill bits to any size, mine can anyway?

Yea that would be ideal but its time and money, think I might just smash it as I have another sump to go on!
