Telecoms cable, BT?

As I'm decorating I've just come across an old BT junction box where you plug a phone into, I want to get rid of it and disconnected the wiring and removed the box. Following the cable that runs alongside my house it goes to nextdoor, any ideas on what it could be?

Should I just snip it back, or do I need to contact BT?

Sounds like that's where the line comes from. In terms of connectivity do you have a pole in the rear garden?
If there is 100 percent no cables in your house, and you don't use the landline. snip it back bit by bit until your certain.

Also moved to technology forum.

No pole in my garden but guessing that line is from a pole somewhere, decided i'l just snip in back to the where it clipped to the neighbours wall it's off my property then.
