The Beetle has arrived.

Monday night the Beetle was delivered on a low loader. My son had managed to persuade his friend that he didn't have enough time for a project and convinced him that it needed to go to a good home. Some notes were exchanged which did not include an MOT and after waiting weeks to get rid of the Metro we finally had room under the car port for the latest project.

Day 1.

The strippage begins.

The plan is for a resto Cal look with oem feel. He is currently sourcing loads of parts and would welcome any original parts if anyone has them lying around. It is a 1972 but was imported from Cyprus in 1975 so has an N plate but is tax exempt.

Would love to do this but have no mechanical background at all? Do they do a Haynes manual for the bugs lol. HOw much do you think the resto will cost (if you don't mind me asking). I have been to bug jam at Santa pod 4 times (last time was couple of yearsback now) and everytime I come back wanting to build one up.

Nice project, what happened to the red one that someone posted up?

Get rid of that 'Little Bugger' lettering, quick!

i have a real soft spot for early 90s cal look cars like this. Will get my hands on a bug again one day and have the advantage of knowing what I'm doing now LOL

Loads of bits have been ordered and he is currently working on getting the engine running right and sourcing bits like doors, a dash board a whole interior, two new wings, bumpers a headlight and then he has to sort out the wiring as none of the lights are working and all of the switches have been hidden under the dash board.

So far the bill stands at: Cost of car £500.00
Parts so far £200.00

Wheels going to be Powder coated

If this is what the metro was sold on for iam disappointed Pete :dead:

Only joking mate, looks to be a good project. Should have kept it racing blue tho mate !

Is Tim doing all the paint himself ?

The paint was shot and quite a few panels need to be replaced. Tim will respray it next year. He is just wanting to get it going properly, put an MOT on it and drive it for a little while and then have the major spend next year on the complete Interior and exterior makeover. He's spending about two hours each night on it. I'm not having any part in it as it is a joint project with his girlfriend.

Not been able to update for some time so bear with me as I try to capture what has been happening. My son has now reached the point where he is waiting to have the car re-wired and then he will put it through an MOT. The idea being that he runs it for the winter in this state and manages to save enough for the respray which he will be doing himself at the bodyshop he used to work at.
