The best Renault Sport Clio of the decade (In your opinion)

(Potential Poll material Please!) Cars included:

172 ph1
172 ph2
172 ph2 Cup
182 (With and without Cup packs)
182 Trophy
V6 mk1
V6 mk2
197 (With and without Cup packs)
197 R27
200 (With and without Cup packs)

I suppose this is really cannon fodder but may form a good debate with visable poll results if we could please?

Looking for those of you which like to voice your opinions to suggest which and why for the "ClioSport.net users best Renault Sport Clio of the decade poll" (If that's ok to use that title?).

"Best" to me is the best overall car (To me that's standard), including performance, handaling, safety, cost, desire, looks, need to repair etc.

Obviously unless your name is Renault UK chances are you haven't driven all of them but slapping you down with you haven't driven one/owned after you say something comical/stupid will all be part of the fun.

Anyway, it's a tough one but for me I'd have to say the best Renault Sport of the decade would have to be the 182 Trophy. Amongst the quickest produced, handles sublimley, good MPG. Downsides are the loss of Xenons, climate and other luxury elements, massive steering wheel and slightly high seating position. I discount the 200 and 197 due to fuel efficiencies - however if you deem it to be purley about performance you may vote differently.

The Best I have driven was my old R27 Company car. Absolutely loved that thing!!!

I sold it to a guy that wrote it off at the 'Ring. :(

I just can't warm to the mk2 ph2 mainly due to the driving position. Its terrible.

The best IMO would be the 200 as it has had so many good reviews, and Renault really seem to have 'Cracked it'.

On the downside, alot of people hate the facelift (myself included)

mk2 vee for me, pointless, expensive ect... but in terms of smiles and the grin i get everytime i drive it even though its been a daily car for a year and a half win it for me! :)

id have to go with r27....simply because the bird driving it at spa was pretty fit.....and even she could drive one pretty quick

Haing only driven the 172 cup and the Trophy it would have to be the Trophy, but I don't hae a great deal of expereince with these cars.

Trophy, but i would say that as i own one, lol. Did own a ff182 for 2yrs previous though and i have to say the Trophy is the better of the two :).
Think this thread needs to be made into a poll, if it hasnt already been done that is?

Copy and paste:

"I've not driven any other iteration, but my (172 Cup) is the best on that list. Fact"

:)

+1 for the trophy
Would rather get a meg for the 197/200 economy.

wheres the classification for a 1.2 with a tacky halfrauds sport badge therefore making it a fully fledged sport and making it better that a mk2 v6 :p

Mk2 V6, unbelievable thing! havent driven all rs clios, driven 172, 172 cup, 182, 197 and v6 mk1 and mk2. the mk 2 just feels like a mini supercar. Just wish i could afford to insure one! need to try and get a shot in a clio 200 at some point, im going to the dealer next week to get roof bars and bike rack fitted so will try and sneak a shot in one then :-)

I absolutely love the Vee's, in particular the Mk2. Just everything about it. It's an experience that I'll never forget...Noise, Smell, Road holding, Gear changes, lets not forget those looks of "what the hell is that"!!!

I'm just waiting for the day where I can say "I'm in a position to run two cars." I'll have one of those in a split second.

I've only ever driven my Ph2 172 and I don't believe that can be the best Clio Sport of the decade so my opinion will be solely based on what i imagine all the other cars to be like. If that makes sense?

Does anyone even care what i think? lmao

its my only car! works everyday for me though not the best when it snows :approve:

id say for concept and fun the 172 cup gets my vote. hot hatch to the core old school thrills and there will be nothing like it again.

I have only properly driven my 182 out of all of them but voted for the mk2 vee as its the car I would want the most out of all of them.

Even though all my mates think i will, I doubt i'll own one though. R27 or R26 seems the next logical step for me if I stick with renault.

Voted the PH1 172, simply because it is the first step that all followed from, icon wise I think it is the greatest.

Mk2 V6 for me... it oozes sex. You never forget when you see one. i will own one at some point. :)

V6 255. Obviously biased, but I've driven all the others (most in anger) and whilst they're fun to rag shite out of, when you settle down they're all still a bit too 'buzzy'. The V6 is much more civilised IMO on the motorway at 80-90mph, but then turns into a toy when you're pushing.

Crowning achievement. And the same to tax as the 2 litres!

I went for the 200. I'm obviously out of touch though, as I like the front end (from the front).

It was close between the 200 and the 197 r27 (assuming I am right in thinking that the grey 197 that was stuck in the snow was a r27??) and the Trophy, but the white 200 just looks the part for me.

I chose based on what I would want from a car.

Most of the time I am driving, I will never be near the limit of the car's ability, so picking the best handling car out of a range of cars with great handling anyway isn't going to serve a lot of purpose for me.

sad times the williams etc doesn't even make the list.

at somepoint we will scrub off the 172 as it is a chav chariot.

I went for the ph1 because its the one that started it all, and put quick Clio's at the forefront of the hot hatch market, the ph2 didn't do quite so well but the Cup's and 182 sorted that out. Realitically i'd say the Trophy is the best car though.

The Vee's seem more like a seperate car to me, because I supose they're the most special RS Clio.

182 Trophy. I had a regular Clio II for 5 years, loved it and always wanted a sport... then they introduced Trophy with suspension from outter space, extra cool interior with bucket seats and dark wheels on red car - perfect. Second choice would be the the 200 like I'm waiting for, but just because there are no new 182 trophies :)

172 cup or Ph2 v6.
Ill go for the cup tho as its for me the pure essence of a hot hatch. No junk no nerdy expensive suspension, just the fun stuff. I got mine new cos it was as close to the old skool hatches like the mk1 golf and 205 gti and you didnt have to cover it with hammer right every month.

I know the 197 and 200 are better cars they are just a bit safe.

Trophy of the ones I've driven. I've not driven anything more fun on a quiet b road.

When talking about the best RenaultSport (Clio or otherwise) I'd say the only thing that matters is how it drives, whether it's entertaining and playful - basically if it's fun and gives you thrills.

The RS cars are about the driving experience. I love the fact that RS went to the rediculous measure of remote reservoir suspension for the Trophy in order to improve on the already great 182 - and that car nearly gets my vote.

Unfortunately for the Trophy the sheer ludicrousness of putting a rather large engine where the seats should be in the name of driving kicks - not once, but twice! Gives the V6 mk2 number one spot for me.
