  Twingo 133 Cup,
f**king mental that people are using stuff like that for road rallies 😂
It's daft what people use and the money that is in some of the road rally cars. These days as long as its on injection, has a bit of carpet in the footwell and some thing that looks like it could of been a back seat strapped to the rear cage it's all good!

Yeah it's definitely got a bit out of control. My local club started putting in some more noise restrictions, as some of the cars were a bit ridiculous.

My old Escort has ended up being used for targa rallies. I remember going to a targa a couple of years back and there was someone using a 106 Cup car that they'd just stuck some foam to the inside of the roof and thrown some seat backs into it. Taking the piss really. Mind you, he was nowhere near winning and got beaten by loads of standard road cars

I used to do 2/3 road rallys a month at one point and some of the cars just bonkers like you say. I used to get top 10 results in a standard puma against stage cars with seats thrown in the back (I still have my twingo rear bench seat just incase!). I have seen road rally escorts going for 30k and mivec satria/colts are 10k, mental for what is supposed to be grassroots!

Yeah the brm was a cracking wee car back in the day and that shape did handle well in standard form more so the mg versions but 105bhp from a 1.4 na engine that sounded the tits with a filter on and to be fair the engines were ok once you sorted the cheap crap bit that was in the middle of them

I’m still considering one for a class A hill climb car. There just isn’t a better car under 1.4 in standard form.

The road rally boys really love one, but a friend of mine who does a lot of targa rallies and autoSOLOs (with quite a lot of success) bought one to replace his 106, but sold it almost immediately. He said the body felt like it was made out of jelly and he really hated it. I've not tried one myself, but would be interested to. The engine is definitely good. I know another guy that rallies one and they won the 1.4 class of the MSN Circuit Rally Championship a couple of years ago. Theirs had about 150bhp from the 1.4, but they've built a 1600 for it now, which is about 200.

Only other thing I can think of is a Micra really, as the engine in those is pretty decent, and the car is probably a bit lighter than the Rover/MG.

Went to a autocross meeting tonight, so a few more Saudi spots.

370Z drift car. Had a ride in this. Looks pretty standard, but had a welded diff, hydro handbrake etc:

2.0 turbo accord. Looked standard but had Civic Type-R turbo, aftermarket downpipe and ethanol. Owner said it was about 350whp:

PXL_20220106_173052203.NIGHT.jpg

300ZX(?) with - I think - some kind of American V8:

350Z drift rat:

Two Impreza autocross/hillclimb cars. Both EJ20, around 400bhp and with anti-lag. Both owned by the same guy. He also has a turbo 350Z with 700+bhp (the 350Z above belongs to his wife). I got some video of him revving the Imprezas with the anti-lag on. They were ground shaking. The blue one has the exhaust coming out of the bonnet

They all look like absolute s**t boxes....

I love it!!

Yeah they were definitely function over form. It's a pretty mixed scene here. A lot of people are into American stuff, so it's mainly Chargers and Mustangs, but there's quite a big JDM scene too. A lot are pretty rough around the edges, but I guess that's a theme with drift cars everywhere. Driving standards are shite here too, so most cars are dented somewhere.

Technically a 200SX as it's not a JDM model, but you're right, I didn't even see it beneath the dirt 😂

Is it? I thought it was a 300ZX, but I'm not great at pre-90 Japanese stuff.

Yep, that’s a 300

I can't take too much credit, as it was a bit of a guess

Going to a drift night later, so hopefully see some more interesting stuff.

Few more spots when I was out walking around the neighbourhood over the weekend.

Ford Crown Victoria with BMW M stripes 😂

Quite like these. We didn't get them in Europe. Hyundai Genesis coupe. 3.8 V6 and RWD:

Nissan Cedric (one for weird JDM fans):

Yet another old Merc:

Charger R/T:

These are quite funny. Chevrolet Caprice but, if you look closely, you'll see it's actually just an Omega with some slightly different panels. Most of them are beaten to hell like this one as well:

Went to a drift meet last night too. Wasn't the busiest, as apparently a few of the "big" cars were in Riyadh for the Autoville event.

Another Hyundai Genesis Coupe. I'm quite tempted to get one of these to be honest, as they are probably about the best value RWD car that you can get with a manual 'box. Was thinking about a 350Z, but they're 99% autos sadly:

This wasn't drifting, but it looked decent I thought:

PXL_20220108_165920292.NIGHT.jpg

This guy was trying hard with his auto 'box, but was struggling a bit. Eventually popped a tyre and damaged his rear bumper, but didn't get any pictures of that:

Formula Drift-spec E92 - this had a turbocharged LS3 with over 1,000bhp:

PXL_20220108_171650536.NIGHT.jpg

Another FD-type car, this time a PS13 with a 2JZ swap:

PXL_20220108_171710552.NIGHT.jpg

PXL_20220108_171738944.NIGHT.jpg

And finally, a GT86, also with a 2JZ. Got a quick ride in this one. Boost is turned down currently, so it was a bit over 300bhp apparently, but still felt rapid in a straight line and did big skids:

I might actually start a thread for all my Saudi car crap if anyone is interested, especially when I buy something to mess with.

I'd be interested in a Saudi thread.
One of my colleagues had a Genesis Coupe when I lived in Korea. Was a really good car!

I will try to create something. Thought people might find it interesting to see what life is like here, as well as the car scene. It will be more interesting when I actually get round to buying a car though no doubt.

Yeah I think it got reasonable reviews. People seem to rate them quite highly as a starter drift car. I think they look really nice with a few modifications too.

Saw the Lotus Emira this morning, camo'd up on the M40. Basic shape is lovely. Also saw the new 2 series. It's terrible in the photos. 5x worse in the flesh.

I’d be interested too. Looks like some awesome cars, as you’d expect from there! Is fuel cheap there? One thing I can’t get over is how much it looks like Malta! I thought it was for a few pictures. Made me chuckle.

It's about 40p a litre, so obviously massively cheaper than the UK, but it's pretty expensive by local standards I'm told. Apparently it's gone up quite a lot in the last few years.

I haven't been to Malta, so I don't really have any experience, but it makes sense I guess, as there would have been influence there from the Middle East and North Africa in the past (and vice versa) I guess. I'll start a thread this week some time. May post some more general stuff too, just so people can see the place, as it's not exactly widely visited!

40p a litre!! Amazing and crazy that it’s expensive to you/them. I remember being in the states when it was $1.87 a gallon and they were complaining! We were paying £5 a gallon!

Yeah to quote my wife ‘it’s full of rubble’. Which is strange to see that wheee you are is the same. There is a lot of Middle East influence in Malta and also Italy and other countries that have invaded over the years. Just expected over there to be all posh and clean. I guess most places have a nice front and then if you look behind it’s dirtier and not as polished.
