I really wish i’d bought a V70 R rather than the Clio 200 i ended up with. Its surprising how many are for sale that are imports!View attachment 1654886

Love those. Hard to find a good manual though. A bit of baulk factor too with the AWD I believe. I had a D5 of that gen for a while and, while it was a great barge, the cost of parts was a bit eye-watering at times.

The Rs strip their angle gear for fun, so they end up FWD, and the 4C adaptive dampers are hard to get hold of IIRC. Not particularly fast either.

Good for wafting, but same is true with a D5.

I think if I was to have another, I'd have a petrol turbo, but just a FWD. Not sure the R is worth the extra money/hassle nowadays, as they seem quite pricey. A 2.3/2.4/2.5T with a few mods would be plenty fun and still good at wafting.

I saw a new Megane the other day... absolute tragedy.

This is a thing that really bothers me, why can't manufacturers produce these new cars with new names? Maybe I'm missing something.

I think that looks quite nice.

In terms of nomenclature, it makes sense to launch a newer version of the old model as it's less confusing for buyers.

Look at Peugeot with the 107 which was just a newer version of the 106. Then after the 107 came the 108, again a newer version of the 107 and so on.

Now they just stick with the same model names .i.e 208.

But it's not a new version of the old model?

The old megane was a small / medium hatchback. This is an all electric crossover type thing.

Ford did the same turning the Puma from a small coupe into a small crossover. Then they turned the Mustang from a sports coupé into a large electric SUV (confusingly continuing to sell both models under the same brand).

Surely this is even more confusing than having a brand new model line as people are expecting one thing from the name, and getting something completely different, in a totally different market segment.

Unless their marketing strategy is based solely around winding up petrolheads for clicks, it makes no sense.

When was the last time you saw the EV Mustang on the roads?

This is a car they're actively trying to sell here. I was actually surprised when I saw my last one, my daily commute drives right past a Ford store.

There are no petrol heads in the EV future!

I've spotted a Megane EV and a Mustang EV recently and I don't mind either. I have no need or want for a vehicle of that size or shape though and it seems not many other people do either. Those f**king ugly MG's are everywhere though, who knew people just wanted a cheap car to run about in in the EV world?

For the record, I didn't mean it was a tragic car, more the name being sullied. As pointed out already, Ford are selling a Mustang and a Mustang, both w**k.

Why not even reintroduce the Aventine name? 85% of people wouldn't know what the original looked like or even if there was one.

While we're on the subject of Mustangs. Saw this absolutely appalling fitment on a Mustang today. You could house a family of Ukrainian refugees in that arch gap, and the wheel is a good inch or so outside the arch.

But it is a new version of the old model which is now electrified and crossed over.

Semantics.....

Other than being a car that can seat five and carry some luggage, what continuity is there from the old Megane to the new?

Surely the point of a model 'brand' goes deeper than this?

By your logic, the ID.3 is just a new version of the old Golf (and also a new version of the old Polo), the Taycan is just a new version of the Panamera etc. etc.

How many long-term Megane buyers would get into the new Megane and say "ah yes, that's the classic Megane experience I've come to love" (obviously none, because that's just weird, but you get my point).

I think you need to speak to Luca de Meo fella.

Parked up next to this at Maccy D’s (where else)

Looking at MOT history, should’ve spent the money on some tyres first.

And sounded absolutely s**t as it pulled away, reminded me that as technically good my old R was, it lacked any sort of character at all.

I saw a very similar scirroco earlier in some rank shiny green wrap with a massive drift spec rear wing. Absolutely tragic.

I spotted an E30 M3 and a Morgan 3 wheeler in Sheffield yesterday. The Morgan was a lot bigger than I expected but such a cool thing to run around in on a sunny day.

Is that matte? Or Albi Blue?
It looked matte to me, and a matte black bonnet. Compared to the other Renault's I've seen here it's actually fairly tidy. I'm pretty sure mine is the nicest in Poland though if the ones I've seen are any indication 😂

Opposite ends of the spectrum, but you don't see many of either about now

I remember being about 10 and my mates dad had a Hyundai Coupe. It was f**king awful but he thought it was the best and fastest car in the world. He used to talk about how him and his dad raced this that and the other and won.

Anyway, we were heading up a slip road and one of those came past us absolutely balls to the wall flat out. Had never heard a noise like it (still haven’t to be honest) and off it fucked at a rate of knots leaving us looking like we were going backwards. Not fast by todays standards but arguable the best sounding car ever made.

The poor lad never lived it down, he still gets reminded of it to this day 😂
