Can anyone find me Rich's white clio 1*2 Had the black side mouldings etc. I can't find the thread and wanted to save a picture of it. It was the car that blew me away when younger.

I find the site search really frustrating at times.

Love the 306 gt, if it wasn’t for the clio sports I’d have one or a rallye. Long first gear on them also like the 206 previously mentioned on this thread I think. A mate had one and I couldn’t believe the first gear acceleration and length!

Parked up next to this at Maccy D’s (where else)

Looking at MOT history, should’ve spent the money on some tyres first.

And sounded absolutely s**t as it pulled away, reminded me that as technically good my old R was, it lacked any sort of character at all.

And parked up in Sainsburys today and this pulled up.

Has one of those F1 style flashing light things in middle of rear diffuser, classy.

Didn’t take many pictures as I wasn’t there long and spent most of it catching up with people but Watergate is always good for cars. Scrutineering last night for example:
IMG_3924.jpeg

Plenty of tasty motors, about 5 more WRC/Group B cars of various eras, 1000bhp skylines, race cars etc, Megane R26.R, Cayman GT4, so on. David Richards popped along as usual.

Like this on the RallyPrep stand though. They build all sorts of cool stuff but one of the things they’ve had a hand in recently is this. Steve Nichols was the chief designer for McLaren and (contrary to what Gordon Murray likes to claim) designed the MP4/4. This is his latest concept, the Nichols N1A. 900kg, 650 normally aspirated bhp, manual h-gate. Lovely.

Interesting to see both ex McLaren guys having the same philosophy when designing their own cars. Lightweight, manual, and naturally aspirated. I bet that's an absolute riot to drive!

Yeah, all about driver engagement/experience rather than just being fast. To be honest that’s what you’ve got to do these days to set yourself apart from the ‘common’ supercar manufacturers.

There's an argument that chasing power is now a waste of time. Some EV will come along with a billion kW of power and piss off into the distance.

Had a few of those over the years. The saloon drives better than the hatch as it's a touch stiffer. More refined too. Had one with a 2.0 conversion several years ago that went pretty well for the time.

Can't be many left now.

Can't be many folk that ordered the saloon!

I drove an "rs2000" mkv a while back, drove really well, super tight and nothing like most old cars of that era. Very impressive.

I had quite a few Mk6’s including the 4x4 - Billy at Well Lane Turbo Centre super chipped it and put me a stainless Magnex exhaust on - nearly as quick as a standard Escort Cosworth - very underrated car even now.

Mk5 now seem to be increasing in value, probably due to that bonnet bulge.

Yeah sorry might be a mk6. Forgot they didn't finish at mkv.

I wonder why they did an escort saloon, or had they phased out the Orion by the Mk6?

I'd love a Mk5 RS2000 in grey 🩶🩶

No, no it did not.

I know the Cosworth weighed a bit more, but there's no way an N/A 2.0 Escort with a superchip on it was anywhere near the same performance.

150bhp standard RS2K, so 165bhp MAX with a chip and zorst.

RS Cossie was 220bhp out of the box

The Escort Cosworth was not really a quick car in standard form - I been owning and driving Cosworth since 1987 so have a little knowledge on them - I supplied Well Lane most of there Escort Cosworth in 1995/6 as Billy was a good friend of mine - I did say nearly as quick - - 165/170 bhp with 2wd was a lot in 1995

I also had a new Integra type R in 1998 which was quicker then one - but that will be up for debate I’m sure.

I always hoped there would be an escort cossie saloon as a replacement to a sapphire. I’m sure someone did it years ago. No whale tail though of coarse, nice and subtle with just the wide arches and bumpers.

There is a tidy grey mk5 rs2000 on eBay at the minute.

Later escort cossies the whale tale was an optional extra so there were a few without one but still a hatch though

It was a marketing thing, and helped them to fudge the sales figures. If I remember rightly, the Orion made up around a quarter of total sales for the Escort/Orion, so they decided to rebrand the Orion as an Escort saloon to make the sales figures for the Escort look better. It happened in 1993 I think, when they made some minor changes to the floor pan and trim levels.

It was a bit of a shame in a way, as the Orion had always been a bit more "upmarket" (relatively speaking 😂 ) than the Escort. In the early days of the Orion, you couldn't get anything lower than a GL, as they wanted to aim it at more expensive rivals. Over the years, they just ended up making it the same as the Escort. They still drive better and are more refined though.

and that's absolute best case scenario. Just as likely it would still make 150bhp, those chips weren't very sophisticated.

I did say nearly as quick - - 165/170 bhp

Did you b****cks make 20bhp off an exhaust and a bullshit chip. Absolutely no f**king way.

Someone got out of bed the wrong side this morning

I remember seeing a few RS2000s on dynos over the years. The power figures seemed all over the place. I seem to remember that removing the air pulse system from the exhaust manifold helped a bit. With cams, induction, exhaust and a chip, I seem to remember some seeing 170+bhp, and as much as 180bhp in some cases, but I suspect the dynos weren't always the most accurate. I spoke to someone at mountune and the Group A engine with forged pistons etc struggled to get beyond 190bhp, and they only cracked 200bhp once they fitted throttle bodies etc.

Yes escos had aero delete as an option later on.

If an RS2000 could go as fast as an escos that easy it would have been a better seller than an escos!
