The joy/curse of racing stripes...

  182 Cup
Now generally I quite like the attention the stripes bring my car, seeing folk make an effort to have a good look when I drive past etc but then tonight when stuck in traffic a yound lad of about 16 walks past, clocks the stripes and gives me the w*nker gesture!
Now i'm a bit paranoid about some other wee scrote taking exception and doing damage!

Any other striped up 182 owners go through these motions?

In my opinion, stripes suck on all cars except GT40s'. The worst car for stripes just now has to be the Fiesta ST! If you like them though.... I have been close to mocking people that have stripes on their car. Just looks like the road painter has decided to proceed right over the car.

each to there own mate,i think they look great and anybody with motorsport history will know the stripes came from the original renault gordini and i think they look great :)

I've had it when driving the missus 182 Cup. Watched two chavvy guys walk past it at the petrol station. On nudges the other, points at the car and they burst out laughing.

Now what amused me most was they they were getting into some pikey old 1980s BMW 3 series!!!!!

I think the racing blue Clios actually look really good with the stripes. You can get away with it coz its from the factory and they have some heritage.

I say to anyone who takes the p!ss, pull up next to it at the lights and see what happens. Most people who know cars wouldn't laugh at it, they might not like it but they'd know what the car was.

He's just 'sore' because he wont ever own a car like yours (or because he's been taken up the tradesmans for a bag of wacky-backy)

  Turbos.
The problem is whatever Renault say there is no heritage. Saying they are Gordini stripes doesn't mean a thing to anyone.

So, to Joe Public, you have just bought some white insulation tape and covered your car in it. What do you expect really?

I'd certainly never put them on. I remember when i was at first pleased when people gave me the thumbs up to my first Clio. I then realised these people were young chavs or Sun reading geezers. This is why i never slammed the 172 and stayed with a stealth exhaust.

Well I had stripes on my cup and thought they looked great. I wasnt trying to look flash, I just thought they suited the car.
The reason I took them off was because they were attracting too much attention from traffic cops.

By far the worst car for stripes is the new 207 GTi.

I cannot stop myself from laughing when I see them.

If I didn't laugh I would cry.

Nah !!!..... the worst example of strips (from factory) is that silly little peugoet or citroen supermini that they have decide to spruce up, including a cetral exhaust lol

I looked at both options when I was in the market for my 182. Decided as you have said that the stripes attracted too much of the wrong kind of attention. 99.9% of the people out there have no idea why the stripes are on or what they relate to, they just see "go faster stripes". Hence my final decision to go with FF cup-packed but without stripes.

The chav was probably jealous or something. I have never had anything like that but have had some comments from people at work like 'Did you pay for your car to be chaved up?'.

I just ignore the comments as I know for a fact they have no taste in cars... he owns a clapped out Ford Focus.

*high 5* :D

I don't mind them with, but much prefer mine without - the colour's bright enough as it is!

I think that sums up my sentiments as well....most of the scrotes out there wouldn't know f-all about the origin of the stripes.

I personally think the only cars they should be on is Shelby Mustangs and Ford GT40s

Same here, that's why I decided I didn't want them on mine, although I do like them and think they suit the car. Just couldn't be bothered with people making chav comments who didn't know a thing about cars.
