Good post Crazy Clio, in my mind a chav is an uncultured, ill educated person who does not have the good taste to own a Clio. lol

Well ive only read bit and bobs on this thread, as quite frankly i can't be arsed to read it all...after all this is simply another SS (Seb Special) Thread which basically is Seb on his soapbox slagging off the 1*2's and then deperately defending the 197 ....are all the 197 owners this sensitive?
And then of course the usual suspects jump aboard and carry on the mud throwing.

A couple of select words come to mind when describing you lot....those being "arrogant" and "sad"...but obviously you lot won't EVER see you are wrong on anything so all this is pointless.

Taking it a bit too seriously I think. We all love the Clios :) I don't recall any moral issues from the masses when the 197 was getting slated.

Yeah but i don't see anyone labelling 197 owners as "stuck up"...altho it seems Seb is fighting very hard to attain this label.

Why now, just as he has a 197, does everyone else become a chav for having a 1*2?

jeez, getting a bit personal now....

shame really as many realise the piss take this thread is and that it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

anyone who knows who i am know i love the 1*2 but i also enjoy the banter even more. some people take this 197 vs 1*2 much too seriously and it is only posted in jest.

i seem to be stereotyped with this complex of beleiving because i have a 197 i am better. this could not be further from the truth. but still people seem content with running down this line.

TBH

PERS bool bNewSeb:=FALSE;
VAR num nSeb:=1;
VAR num n182:=1;
VAR num n197:=2;
VAR num nSTFU;

bNewSeb:=TRUE;
IF bNewSeb THEN
nSTFU:=(nSeb+n197);
!Seb=3
ELSE
nSTFU:=(nSeb+n182);
!Seb=2
ENDIF

So bsically seb, you are better for having a 197 :approve:

EDIT: Bloody indents don't work on the forum :(

Sebs just fighting his own corner as theres no real quantity of 197 owners on here nor many that wish to convert. Seems like someone could be trying to justify the purchase of the new car to me without much luck!!! ;)

And Royston.....Well he's just bitter cause his 182 is a few year old now and he has to change to mk2 breadvan in order to get a better steering wheel. ;)

I like how there is a common stereotype that chavs are poor in these threads.

Most chavs round here are loaded, They are all in well paid jobs, Mainly manual labour, Work a fair few hours, and All have very decent cars.

I regularly see 20ish year old chavs in E46 M3's, Evo's, Scoobies, TT's, S3's etc etc.

I think the fact if alot of these people who are probablygetting £400ish a week working as plasterers etc etc, are still living it at home, So they can afford to run/buy/insure good cars.

The thickest, Most annoying chav ever, from my school, Who is now 21, Got kicked out of school in year 11 and was put straight into a plastering course, Passed this and is now on 35-40k a year.

I love how the term chav gets stereotyped as poor.

I love it on here how anyone who is young and has a nice car is either put down as "using Daddies money" or " Has bought the car on finance etc etc.

The difference is property. An average 21 year old with an slightly above average wage could EASILY afford something special like ( I mean special, Not a renault), If he is living at home. I pay £150 a month rent to my mom and dad (Some prob get away with less or even More) Most people of that age in a full time job, Who haven't gone College or Uni pick up 7 or 8 times that after tax!! You could easily run a decent car on that wage.

It6s the lack of property that means chavs sometimes have good car, Not the fact they are on finance etc etc

I agree....a lot of so called 'chavs' are builders, plasterers etc who we all know charge ludicrous prices per hour and choose to work whenever they want.

At the end of the day though you can never buy your way out of a culture/class hence why the above types go straight for the obvious choices like big, blinged BMWs and 4x4s in order to display all this 'wealth'. The rest of us look at them and think t**ts :D

dude, you don't know Seb too well then... he takes this about as seriously as most people take Lusty and is probably sat laughing right now from the reactions of some people in this. Hook line and sinker, well done Seb :lolup:

hehehe

And Royston.....Well he's just bitter cause his 182 is a few year old now and he has to change to mk2 breadvan in order to get a better steering wheel. ;)

There is some truth in that :)

I'm 'bitter' because my Renault experience has been a bad one. Yes, the car is getting a bit old for me now, and it looks old (whole point of thread ;)) and feels rattly, creaky, and fragile, so I chose the MkII bread van because it has a better steering wheel, attached to a better car.

I think this thread has proven there are many 'bitter' 172/182 drivers who simply can't understand that the RS Clio is not the greatest car ever to have 4 wheels bolted to it.

^^^No s**t mate...I was lead to believe the best car ever with 4 wheels bolted to it was the Williams with the '182' Trophy coming a close second!? ;)

  Mint 1*2's for sale-
When I was at the world series at Donnington last year the 197 had just been launched & there was one in the paddock, a blue one- parked in with the masses of 182's & 172's-
When the formula one demonstration stopped the crowds moved away from the track side towards the Parked cars in the paddock-

I sat & watch for a good 15 mins as people stopped & admired both the 172's & 182- the red tropheys seemed to pick up a lot of attention-
Interestingly the 197 was ignored by pretty much everyone- No interest what so ever-

The same as the Bromley car pageant last year, Renault Masters had a new 197 parked at the front of the Histoire Display next to My Vee, and a Renault Spyder-

You can see it in the background on the second picture-

Again for the best part of the day Adam ( working for Masters) sat in the Spyder because no-one was really interested in the 197-

The car has no presence & isnt aggresive enough-
Add to that the over inflated price for the car & you end up falling VERY short of expectations-
people buying a new one will lose a fair few bob in depreciation over the first 2 years- the residuals will be poor, especially when they update the model to the Cup-
How much will that be-

Anyone who comes on here to bash the former 172 or even the 182 & owns a 197 needs their eyes examined- At least these older cars have charactor-

I think the best car ever made is whichever Clio the CS massive can currently afford ;)

So so true.

I think a lot of this is down to the fact that people can't afford, or don't want to shell out for the new 197 so they **** it to justify this to themselves

And that doesn't mean everyone thinks that, but it's obvious quite a few do.

But lets face it 182 / 197 owners, neither is hardly KING of the road, lol.

^^^Id happily take on a Liquid R27 over my 182, iv been open in saying that a few time just not a boggo coloured one but that was the same with the 182 really.

The 182Cup is just as bad but at least the seats won't be covered in stenching sweat stains :(

I bet there's a few stains on yours sweetcheeks ;)

I still love the look of my 182 but the 197 does look more modern. The Mk2 Ph1s are looking dated though..

Seb you're a little tinker, we're going to need some chairs to help people off their high horses!!

Yup, mk2 ph1's are looking retro now.

I've just been looking around another pearl black 172ff and I was actually quite taken by it. Interior is gash though. The plastic speaker grills ruin it imo.

Have to agree with the chav bit, although you can always tell them a mile off, the absolutly filthy state of the poor car! i dont think 1*2's look dated, the good ones are just in good hands. not banged up and revved the gut's out of in car parks.
Personally i cant belive they can insure it i am 24 and was shocked at my insurance on my 182, cant belive i am looking forward to being 25!:dapprove:
